One of the voices of the Yankees on the radio, our buddy, Emmanuel Barbarino, as I like to call him. Before I get to Emmanuel, just so I want you to consider for a moment, folks, as you're now dealing with the traffic, coming off the Major Deagon or the Cross Bronx, getting your butt out here to Yankee Stadium for game one of the postseason.
Another example of why New York is just a far better place in the world than Philadelphia. Last night, the Philadelphia Eagles get spazanked by Case Keenum and the Chicago Bears to a point of embarrassment last night. Lose by double digits, tied with the Giants now for first place. And then about an hour and a half ago, the Philadelphia Phillies on the road, of course, against the Atlanta Braves in the first round of their wild card matchup with a lead in the eighth inning.
Chris McMonigle (0:51)
Maybe still game one on the road.
Chris McMonigle (0:53)
Bring in their All World Closer.
Chris McMonigle (0:55)
All World Closer comes in for a four out save.
Craig Carton (0:58)
Two runners on.
Chris McMonigle (0:59)
Two men on base.
Yahtzee, a 3-1 Earl Weaver home run. And the Phillies lose game one.
Craig Carton (1:09)
And their season now hangs on the prescapas of a small little rope. So the Eagles stink. The Phillies are a game away from being eliminated. And we sit here with a first place football team of the Giants, not very good. The New York Jets playing great football. And the New York Yankees about to defend their home turf at Yankee Stadium.
Chris McMonigle (1:31)
Let's do it. Let's turn Boston into Philadelphia.
Craig Carton (1:33)
That's exactly right.
Chris McMonigle (1:34)
They had a miserable game this weekend.
Chris McMonigle (1:36)
That's right.
Craig Carton (1:37)
Patriots suck. Drake May sucks. Drake May sucks. And the Red Sox suck, hopefully. And now we can send the Red Sox to a big loss. Joining us is our dear friend Emmanuel, one of the voices of the Yankees. Does a great job with Ricky Ricardo, who obviously is a Spanish-language broadcast and a lot of the stuff post-game as well, and Susan and Dave.
Chris McMonigle (1:54)
I very rarely see them apart. Every time I see one, I see the other.
Craig Carton (1:58)
By the way, Emmanuel is almost fluent in Spanish now. Yeah, I know. He's got all the dirty words he has. He's got that covered. Right.
Emmanuel Berbari (2:05)
He spent a lot of time around Ricky.
Craig Carton (2:06)
Yes. Good man to hang out with. Really good man to hang out with. He knows all the great clubs and restaurants in every city in America.
Emmanuel Berbari (2:11)
Yes. He's educated me on that.
Craig Carton (2:13)
He also did the Eagle game last night. He did. The Spanish language Eagle broadcast. He is miserable and I love it.
Emmanuel Berbari (2:19)
Case Keenum. Case Keenum, baby.
Craig Carton (2:22)
All right. Let's do some Yankee baseball.
We asked Susan, we asked Dave, we'll get your quick take on it. Obviously, came into the stadium today at one o'clock, not knowing who's starting at second base, not who's starting at third base. Obviously, we now know those answers. Rosario starts at third, and you get Anthony Volpe at second base. Just give me your one, two on that.
Emmanuel Berbari (2:42)
I love the idea of Volpe at second. I don't love the idea of Jazz Chisholm. He just came back, and he didn't look like in the flow Jazz Chisholm. I think that has a lot to do with this, where the Yankees, if Jazz was rolling like he was pre-injury, he's starting at second.
Craig Carton (2:57)
Because he was playing much better ball.
Emmanuel Berbari (2:58)
Right. That's your everyday second baseman right there, if he was grooving, but he didn't have a chance to find a groove, and Volpe is looking very comfortable at second. So I like that move. I was expecting Caballero at third. I was, but the Yankees still, Boone's maintained all year to a man, all year, Rosario's a threat, don't believe the numbers this year, against left hand pitching. So they believe Rosario could have a big moment tonight.
Craig Carton (3:20)
And then let's talk about what I find even, maybe as interesting, if not more interesting than that. You know, a lot of people, Big Mac concluded, were critical of the Yankees at the trade deadline. Number one, not getting a catcher more than anything.
Emmanuel Berbari (3:32)
At the time, it seems like the relievers.
Craig Carton (3:34)
The Yankees said, look, we think Wells is going to start hitting. He did start hitting a little bit after the trade deadline. But Ramos was a major disappointment. Garcia lived up to the billing. I think we all agree on that. But not Ramos. And now Heliud Ramos is your starting right fielder, but not only that, batting third in this Yankee lineup. Your thoughts?
