Welcome to Pardon My Take, presented by DraftKings. The Crown is yours. Today is Wednesday, October 7th, and boys, playoff baseball, we are balls deep in playoff baseball. It has been a hell of, oh, Hank, you're faster than me. Was that a strikeout? You're faster than me. You're way faster than me. We're watching the end, the last two outs of the Padres-Brewers game.

Eli Manning (2:23)

It's not a strikeout, it was a walk.

Dan Katz (2:24)

It was a walk, Hank. Why did you do a strikeout?

Hank Lockwood (2:27)

Because I wanted it.

Eli Manning (2:28)

No faces, no faces, Hank.

Dan Katz (2:31)

I promised.

Eli Manning (2:31)

Because you wanted it.

Hank Lockwood (2:33)

It was close.

Dan Katz (2:35)

Oh, this might not be the last inning. We're going to get to this game after it finishes. It's been a hell of a series, like one of just peak, peak playoff baseball between the Padres and Brewers.

Unbelievable games. And as we're sitting here in the top of the ninth with two on, one out, Mason Miller having a baby today was probably bad timing.

PFT Commenter (2:58)

Yeah, this is why like you got to have better awareness than that. If you're a high leverage closer and you have aspirations to play in October, no sex or at least pull out in January.

Dan Katz (3:09)

Yeah.

PFT Commenter (3:09)

It's not that hard. Not that hard, guys. It's simple math. Use your calendar.

Every manager that's worth a salt should have a presentation. Send it out. It could be an email. Send it out to the guys. Hey, feel free. You can raw dog now once February 15th comes around. But yeah, it was kind of always a possibility that it could happen.

Dan Katz (3:31)

Yeah.

PFT Commenter (3:31)

And I understand it's his first kid. So it makes a lot of sense in that circumstance. But man, they'd probably like to have him right now.

Dan Katz (3:39)

Yeah. Listen, you don't want to miss the birth of your child. He also, there is the possibility, like, you know, isn't being talked about. There's a chance. Oh, and the Padres win. There we go. Oh, you guys are ahead of you. Sorry.

Zach (3:55)

Yeah, shoot, shoot.

Dan Katz (3:57)

My bad. Double play.

That's my bad.

Hank Lockwood (4:01)

I thought you were ahead of me after that accusation.

Dan Katz (4:03)

I thought you were ahead of me. You did strike out before me.

Eli Manning (4:06)

Either way, the Padres win.

Hank Lockwood (4:07)

That's good.

Dan Katz (4:08)

That's good. Wins win.

Mason Miller, I actually don't know if he would have pitched tonight anyway. He pitched 40 pitches two days ago, and that was a lot of pitches. He pitched multiple innings. So maybe that was a thought process that he's like, hey, I don't have it in my arm tonight, so also my baby's being born. And if you put me on paternity leave, you can call up another player. You can put another pitcher on the roster, because I think the Padres were the only team to have 11 pitchers out of all the postseason teams. So that was probably it.
