I'm like, why won't my mouse work? Because it's not turned on. That will do it. Does it work now? Does it work now? And it's not charged.

Welcome to Book Talk, etc., a podcast bound to grow your TBR. I'm Tina from TBR, etc.

Hannah Grace (0:22)

And I'm Hannah from Handpicked Books.

Tina (0:24)

This is a conversational podcast about books and more from two Midwest New Readers who are easily distracted by new releases. And today we leaned in and read some new releases.

Hey, everyone. It is the start of a brand new month. So we wanted to make sure to take the time to invite you to join our Patreon. Our Patreon group is such a wonderful, supportive community of readers. And if you've ever wanted your reading to be more of a social experience, this is a great way to find that connection. Becoming a patron is also a way to financially support our podcast, meet other readers, and of course, get access to exclusive bonus content. Four or five dollars a month, you get access to two bonus episodes and one live event, as well as invites to our Book Talk, etc. Discord server, Facebook group, and monthly community read. You also get access to everything we've created since we've started, which is so much at this point. For October, Hannah and I will be recording our picking, our community reads episode where we decide what books we'll be reading as a group for the months of November through February. We also will be sharing the books that we did not finish for our reader rejected in the NF chat episode. Our community read is The True Confessions of First Lady Freeman by Deesha Bhilja. We'll discuss that in Discord. Then our live event via Zoom is our Mood Reader Happy Hour.

If you're interested in becoming a supporter of the show, head to patreon.com, Book Talk, etc. Or look for the link in our show notes. Thank you so much for your support.

Hi, Hannah.

Hannah Grace (2:08)

Hi, Tina. How are you?

Tina (2:10)

I'm great. Really nice. Finally sunny, so I'm upstairs in the recording space and I got sun streaming through the window. So how bad could it be? Really?

Hannah Grace (2:21)

I mean, yeah, you look fabulous and the lighting is wonderful. And I see that Rachel Harrison book right up on your shelf behind you.

Tina (2:28)

You do?

Hannah Grace (2:29)

Oh, perfect for fall.

Tina (2:31)

It is perfect for fall. I was going to say, I'm bringing Rachel Harrison's latest today later on. I'm like, oh, there it is. But this is not.

Hannah Grace (2:39)

This is the one from last year.

Tina (2:40)

I think this is the one from last year. Yes. Play nice. Kiss Lay Replay I'm bringing today, but I don't know where it is. I think it's downstairs somewhere. So it does not matter. But yes, I got some of the books facing out the ones that I really like. And I like to change them with the seasons. Thanks for noticing.

Hannah Grace (2:55)

Yes, you're welcome. I also feel like our colors I've got on this like brown crew neck. You've got on your dark green crew neck. We are Octobering.

Tina (3:07)

I really want to be Octobering at all times if I'm being honest. But you know, it's officially October when we're recording. So exciting. Now, I want to know before we hop in, TBR wise, are you reading spooky books in October? You got a lot of horror. What's your plan?

Hannah Grace (3:22)

I need to build my TBR still. Actually, I plan on doing that this weekend. Right now, I'm reading 1984

And I do feel like that is a different kind of scary read to have in October. So that's my classic for the month. But I need to put together kind of what I want my October vibe to be. I feel like building this TBR in October every year makes my October reading so great. And it helps to have something to look forward to to read and not be like, okay, I have to use the next perfect October book right now. Having a list I think will be helpful for me. So I plan on doing that this weekend. How about you?

Tina (4:07)

It sounds like you're doing a little bit of reader maxing, which little breadcrumb drop there. My October, I am definitely going to be reading Frankenstein. And that is with some of our patrons. Yes, I'm excited about that. That's our plan. We're going to read it in the month of October. It's the 1818 text, I believe. I have to see which one I have. I have to do more research. But that is one of the ones I plan on reading. And also, I just downloaded this morning. Have you seen?
