Welcome back to the SENWA studio out here at Opta Stadium on this Tuesday morning in our Fair City today. Gonna be cloudy later today, but it's pretty sunny outside at the moment. Some nice shade building from Opta Stadium across towards the Camfield Hotel. Eliza Reilly, gun rider for CODE Sports, joins us on the show now. We're gonna talk West Coast Eagles. Eliza, welcome.

West Coast will not play many must-win matches this season, but is the clash against Richmond this week a must-win to frank their season, do you think?

**Eliza Reilly** (1:23)
I think it would go a really long way to franking it, but obviously, West Coast have been sort of in this pattern in recent weeks of, you know, honourable losses, being competitive, being in games, but not quite being able to get over the line. And obviously, the derby was a bit of a different case, being there at the tail of two halves, obviously competitive in the first half, and then fell away in the second, and ended up losing by 70 points to the almighty Fremantle Dockers.
But it's going to be a really interesting audit, I think, of the sort of second versus third year coach. Obviously, Adam Ouse has had a bit longer in the seat to try and instil this sort of Richmond brand of football they want to be playing. It's been smash by injuries. He's under immense pressure, whereas Andrew McWalter in his second year isn't as much, but would really like to get at least one more win for the season to justify improvements in the gains that Eagles have made, because obviously they've had an upset win over the GWS Giants. They've had a couple wins over the North Melbourne Kangaroos in Port Adelaide earlier in the season, and some really competitive losses against Collingwood. But all the fans and all the punters care about is that wins column, and this is no better opportunity for the rest of the year to claim that one win and that one scalp, although I'm not sure we'll call Richmond exactly a scalp, as Andrew McCormick spoke about last week. But it's going to be a fascinating game, and the Eagles would absolutely be in a much better position if they did walk away with a win.

Yeah, I remember the yanks that was created early in the year when Richmond came here and beat them, and I wasn't a buyer into that angst, because I looked at the season players that the two teams had for that game, and I just thought Richmond's season players were better than West Coast's season players, and that pointed me towards a Richmond victory. But the situation's a little bit different now, isn't it? I mean, Richmond have kind of been stripped back to the bare bones of playing a lot of kids at the moment and a lot of unseasoned players. So you would think that West Coast, with their recent form, apart from the Derby, should be able to get this done, and I suspect there may be some, I wouldn't call it fatal feedback or mortal wounds or anything to come at the club if they lose this, but I would imagine there'd be some feedback from their fans if they don't get the four points here.

Yeah, absolutely. And, you know, yeah, I do remember that game earlier in the season, just like New Duff, where there was a lot of pressure and expectation on West Coast to win. They obviously aligned that contest with their sort of 20-year premiership anniversary celebrations, and then the 40-year anniversary of the club, it was all sort of set up to walk away with those four points, and they just couldn't quite get it done, but they competed, you know, for maybe 108 of the 120 minutes or something that was in the game, and just got pitched by Richmond's experience, as you mentioned. But it feels a little bit similar. Obviously, it is Richmond's home game this weekend. There is a lot on the line for both clubs. Richmond would be desperate for a victory to sort of put the pressure at bay a little bit, given that they have, even though they have been smashed by injury this year, they're currently sitting bottom of the ladder and have their one hand on the number one pick at the moment. Whereas the Eagles, up to the full win so far this year, three more than they got last year. But just to really sort of cement the direction they're heading, the improvements they've made, they'd love to basically get a bit of revenge on the Tigers for what did happen earlier in the season. And there's no better opportunity than this weekend.
