Welcome back to The Bossticks. If you have been listening for some time to our show, you already know Dr. Will Cole. He's a functional medicine expert, New York Times bestselling author, and the host of The Art of Being Well on the Dear Media Network. He is also Gwyneth Paltrow approved. He is not messing around when it comes to exhaustion, inflammation, hormone dysfunction, and symptoms. You are going to learn how to cut through the wellness noise in this episode. Let's welcome our friend, Dr. Will Cole, back to The Bossticks.

Michael Bosstick (0:31)

We've done this show for a long time. We're really into these kind of topics. We're going to get all into cellular aging. We're into all of the things, the fringe things. We've tried all the, we're always experimenting, taking care of ourselves, supplementing all the stuff that we all like. And I say that because I was, the other day I was, sometimes I'll smoke a cigar and sometimes I'll have some alcohol.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:51)

And this woman, sometimes you'll smoke a cigarette.

Michael Bosstick (0:54)

This woman wrote in to me and she's like, how could you be doing these things? And I was like, listen, I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa. I was like, sometimes I drink, sometimes I joy a cigar and sometimes I stay up past my bedtime. Like, let's not get confused about like me enjoying life.

Dr. Will Cole (1:08)

Sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Michael Bosstick (1:09)

But I think that people think like, you know, like this wellness community has gotten so far into like the pockets of like peptides and wellness and sober, fine, do your thing. But like, my message is it could be an 80-20, right? Like, you can sometimes let loose a little bit and you'll be fine if you're doing the consistent things most of the time.

Dr. Will Cole (1:30)

Yeah, the consistent foundation matters the most. I will say most, there's a certain percentage of people that the 80-20 doesn't work when they're looking to heal. Sure, of course. But if you're an average healthy person, yeah, you have to find what that wiggle room and resilience that your body has and there's so much bio-individuality.

Michael Bosstick (1:49)

Personally, Lauryn and I are in the gym four to five days a week. We do all the things that we talk about on the show and then once in a while, we'll go out as friends and let loose. I think the reason being is we do all the things that we all discuss so that we can also do the other things. But I would be very bored if it was just all this stuff. Okay, let's wrap up.

Dr. Will Cole (2:07)

How long have you guys had the show? What year did you start it?

Michael Bosstick (2:09)

March of 2016

Dr. Will Cole (2:11)

Okay. I think it probably was on 17 or 18

Michael Bosstick (2:16)

You were on the earliest episode, it was episode 280 or 238 or 283 We were looking it up.

Dr. Will Cole (2:22)

Nearly like 10 years probably, huh?

Michael Bosstick (2:24)

Yeah. You probably are one of the most recurring guests with four. There's a few people that have got that number, but yeah.

Dr. Will Cole (2:32)

You need like a tally. Yeah.

Michael Bosstick (2:36)

We just got over 1,000 episodes, so it's been a while.

Dr. Will Cole (2:38)

Congratulations, guys.

Lauryn Bosstick (2:38)

Thank you. Talk to us about Brain Fog.

Dr. Will Cole (2:40)

I'm talking about in the new book called Heal Your Cells that I wrote with my friend and colleague Dr. Josh Axe, who's been on the pod before, on your pod before.

We have an epidemic of cellular dysregulation going on. One of the hallmark studies that we talk about in the book was a Stanford study, it was published in 2023 They found one in five Americans over the age of 50 have at least one organ aging more rapidly than the rest of their body, this uneven aging. If the brain cells were aging more rapidly, they were at 80% increased risk of some neurodegenerative issues such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's. If their heart cells were aging more rapidly, they were at over a 200% increased risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure. They look at 11 different organs, they look at the liver, they look at many different things.

That's even worse for younger people. There was a study published just this summer in Nature. They found that people born after 1965 and every decade after that are aging more rapidly than people born prior to 1965 at that same age. The worst was people, millennials, people born in the 90s, are aging more rapidly than people born in 1965 at the same age. So we have this rapidity of cellular aging. That's why things like autoimmune problems are happening younger and younger. Girls are getting their periods younger and younger. Type 2 diabetes used to be called adult onset diabetes. Now 38% of preteens are pre-diabetic. So why brain fog? It's because of this.
