Dr. Stacy Sims is an exercise physiologist, nutrition scientist and a leading expert in female physiology and performance. Her groundbreaking work challenges the long-held belief that women are simply small men when it comes to training, recovery and nutrition. And she's dedicated her career to helping women optimize their health, fitness and longevity on their own terms. In this eye-opening and science-backed conversation, we dive deep into some of the most talked about wellness trends and uncover what actually works for women. We explore the truth about creatine and whether you should be taking it even if you don't work out, the real science behind ice baths and whether they're actually beneficial for women, the most effective ways to burn fat and lose weight and the surprising foods we should and shouldn't be eating. Stacy also shares what truly works when it comes to building lean muscle, especially as we age.

I like women to focus on compound movements. So our typical squats or deadlifts or hip thrusts or Bulgarian split squats. Yeah, they're painful, but good.

**Sarah Grynberg** (2:14)
Well, you know, it seems all right at the time.

**Stacy Sims** (2:17)
Yeah. And then you try to walk the next day. You're like, Oh, what happened?

I'm Sarah Grynberg, and this is A Life Of Greatness. Through my years of studying and researching the connection between human behavior, personal growth and transformation, I have discovered the keys to unlocking greatness within others. In this podcast, I share stories and experiences from my own teachings, along with conversations with inspiring guests to help you learn the simple tips, habits, practices and strategies to cultivate an extraordinary existence.
This episode is filled with myth-busting insights and empowering tools for women who want to feel strong, energized, and in control of their own health. Stacy's wisdom is bold, refreshing, and grounded in decades of research. And it might just change the way you train, eat, and think about your body forever. My hope is that this conversation inspires you to reclaim ownership of your body, to question the one size fits all advice we've too often been fed, and to step into a way of living that truly honors your female biology. Because when women are equipped with the right knowledge, we don't just change our health, we change our lives. Stacy Sims, as I just mentioned to you, I've been so excited to have you on this podcast because I've listened to a lot of the other interviews that you've done and your work has been popping up for years for me now. And I just think that it is incredible, the knowledge that you have. How did you get into the work that you do?

**Stacy Sims** (4:16)
Primarily by accident. And I have had the opportunity to kind of reflect of how I got to be at this point, because my mentor is like, you've made quite a career. And I was like, I haven't even realized that it is a career, because it started from this want and need for equality. And I'm someone who really does not like unfairness or injustice. So when I started university and saw these discrepancies that were happening, and I wanted to get after the why, why are we being looked at as men? Why are we getting the same advice as men? Why are my results from a lab being thrown out? Because I have a menstrual cycle. There's all these things that didn't make sense.
And that's kind of how that passion and drive started. Really trying to understand me as an athlete and a female. And then also knowing that there's so many women out there who are struggling with fitness and nutrition and sleep and all of the things because they don't know their own body or haven't been taught what's going on with their body as opposed to what we hear in the general mainstream.
