Yes, welcome back to the SENWA studio out here at Optus Stadium. 23.2 degrees outside at the moment, building to a top of 29 degrees. It is time for Duff and The Doctor is coming to you thanks to Blackline, that is B-L-A-K-Line Aboriginal owned business, delivering signage, print, promotional products, and creative services with cultural integrity and impact. Dr. Sean Gorman, welcome to the show.
Sean Gorman (0:35)
G'day Duff, g'day listeners. Well, I've got the shorts on today, as you could attest to, and the bottle brush are out.
Mark Duffield (0:41)
It was a shocking sight as you walked past the window, Sean.
Sean Gorman (0:45)
My calves are all right, my calves, hey, easy tiger. You know, and the crutching cradles down south are out and all the rest of it. So yeah, we know we're into spring. Absolutely, it's sprung.
Mark Duffield (0:55)
For those who aren't farmers, crutching cradles mean basically this time of year, you cut the wool off from around the sheep's tail to stop them getting daggy and stop them getting fly blown around the tail. So Sean is familiar with that process. I'm familiar with that process. Probably people in the city not as familiar with that process. Paul Heath out there shaking his head with a distasteful look on his face.
Sean Gorman (1:18)
He needs good crutching.
Mark Duffield (1:20)
Yeah, someone who got a good crutching over the past week, Luke Sayers, apologised to his former wife for the harm he caused as her defamation case over eluded photos.
Sean Gorman (1:32)
And not just apology, an unreserved apology on every level. And so the AFL, I feel, you know, putting a bit of an insider's cap on, would have pressured Sayers to come to some conclusion with his, well, his now divorced wife, Kate, to this matter, because obviously it was dragging a number of high, high level AFL executives and people involved in that whole process into the mix.
And the AFL would not want to, would have want that given the year that they've had. And this would have been like right in the middle of their finals situation, the Brownlow, all of those sorts of things that were going on. But yeah, the fact that it was an unreserved apology to her. And obviously the amount that would have been paid out also, there would have had to have been some sort of monetary situation would have been paid out. Shows you just how, I suppose, how close they came to the dirty laundry being aired in a court of law, which again, the AFL wouldn't have wanted at all.
Mark Duffield (2:37)
So I was watching the Integrity Unit on Code Sport, which is a Michael Warner, Seb Costello program, very good program, very entertaining program.
They were suggesting that it's still open for Kate Sayers to go the AFL for their role in this, even after the settlement with Luke. Would that be your read on it? Because this is all around a statutory declaration in which Luke Sayers accused his wife of accessing his ex-account, posting a photograph of his genitals in January 2025, and then tagging a female executive at Bupa into it.
Sean Gorman (3:21)
Yep. Look, they've obviously done their homework, and they've looked into it a bit further.
Mark Duffield (3:27)
Would they have received an undertaking from Kate Sayers that she does not pursue them over this, or is that still a course open to us?
Sean Gorman (3:34)
Well, possibly could be. And not knowing, I suppose, the deeper situation that they are facing, and what Kate's ideas are around this, obviously. But obviously, her name has been besmirched significantly. That is why she took her ex-husband to court to deal with this and to see it out in a court of law, which then was stopped, because he obviously stumped up for what that situation would be. I think the statutory declaration now is the issue outstanding, because that was signed in a situation which wasn't actually the truth too. So there might actually be further, as you mentioned, code, the code sports people having looked into it, because they've obviously they've looked at the integrity unit, Tony Kane and his team over the year. And they've been very, how should we say, forensic in the ways that they've gone about doing that. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if that is actually the case. And they've obviously done their homework in order to make that claim. So yes, it's a case of watch this space.
Mark Duffield (4:37)
Now, that's obviously quite a tawdry affair. Let's talk about something more pure, far more pure, although very sad. You want to share your thoughts and memories about Ian Miller.
