Yeah, get it on, got to get it on. And the show is going to get on a mandate. You get it on. Thanks for tuning in. Thanks for telling a friend. Dr. Art Uleen, who I've seen on TV for most of my life, I feel like, a long-time medical correspondent, NBC.
NBC Today's show, and just been a, well, what year did you become a physician?

**Art Ulene** (3:41)
I actually graduated in 1962, took an internship in 63, took a four-year residency in OB-GYN, got out in 67, went in the army for three years, practiced for a few years and then stumbled into television.

**Adam Carolla** (3:59)
How'd you get into television?

**Art Ulene** (4:01)
It's a, well, let me see if I can boil it down. I was particularly interested in patient education and most specifically breast self-examination. I helped in the development of a breast model that medical students could learn on, hidden in it. Right. And because of that, I was asked to be interviewed for an hour-long documentary in Los Angeles.
And I was interviewed for half an hour and they used 11 seconds.

Yeah.

**Art Ulene** (4:32)
And a week later, I got a call from the station manager, John Ceparino, who went on to become president of ABC.

**Adam Carolla** (4:39)
Sure.

**Art Ulene** (4:40)
And he said, I'd like to talk to you. I came in and he said, I really liked what you did. I said, all 11 seconds of it? Right. And he said, well, I like those 11 seconds. How would you like to have a spot on the news?
So, okay, that sounds interesting. So what would you do? I said, well, I'd do a five-part series on breast self-examination. He said, no, we already covered that in the documentary. I said, no, actually you didn't. I would show the breast and show women how to examine it. He said, well, I can't do that. It's dinnertime. This is 1974 I said, well, then you better call someone else.
