Reasonable people adapt to the world, unreasonable ones try to change it. Human progress depends on the unreasonable ones.

Don't despair if you suffer rejection and setbacks, those who have gained fame and force and suffered mightily in the hands of rejectors lacking foresight.

Michael Gervais (0:19)

I'm excited.

Albert Bandura (0:29)

All right.

Welcome back or welcome to the Finding Mastery podcast. I'm Michael Gervais. And the idea behind these conversations is to learn from people who are on the path of mastery. And this one is significant. This conversation we're going to have today is a gem. And we want to work to better understand what they're searching for. We want to understand their psychological framework, which is how they see the world and how they understand how people work, how they work, how their craft works. And then we also want to work to understand the mental skills that they've used to build and refine their craft.

I want to take a minute here to announce a really exciting event that we have coming up. As you continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of 2024, I want to pose a question. What are you doing right now to be great with stress? How are you working with stress on your pursuit towards your most important ambitions and goals? And I just want to get right to the heart of the key elements, one in particular, for what it takes to excel in today's high heat, high stakes world. He's literally a living legend in the field of psychology.

He's an extraordinarily innovative scholar whose his work on social cognitive theory, which is the thrust of his work, it's become an incredible resource in academics, but also for practitioners dedicated to helping others push the boundaries of human experience and to really understand human excellence.

His theories are at the core of my pillars that I work from to help elite teams and athletes and performers from a wide variety of ranges to help them become their very best.

It was just a joy to sit down and learn from him. I've been studying his work for so long from a research frame that just to sit across from him and to really have the opportunity to look him in the eyes and see how he was able to articulate his life's work, it was just an incredible gift. My hope is that his genius just spills through this conversation.
