Sean (0:23)
We're talking about wagons.
Nick (0:25)
Wagons, my favorite category of daily driver vehicles.
Ryan Lopez (0:29)
I said we're picking our favorite Porsche's this week.
Sean (0:31)
Wagons, wagons, wagons.
Nick (0:32)
Yeah, only Porsche wagons.
Ryan Lopez (0:33)
Oh, Longans.
Sean (0:35)
Porsche makes some wagons, but there's a lot of really good wagons across every price point. And let's just dive into it. $10,000, Nick.
Nick (0:43)
$10,000 for me is the B7 S4 Avant. Now hear me out. You get a German built 2007, 2008-ish vehicle with Recaro seats, 360 horsepower, I want to say. It comes in a manual. It also came in an automatic, but we're going to get a manual here. There is a small gotcha in that the timing chains here are known to failure. So there's maybe a little deferred maintenance you need to play for. However, it didn't affect every single one. There's things you can do.
You check for the chain rattle. And honestly, you can probably, for 10, even find some that have had their chain guides replaced. It was a small plastic bit.
I think the car still looks like a million bucks today. I still think the B7 Audi design, and I am Mr. B7, just crushes it.
Ryan Lopez (1:28)
This is a B6.
Nick (1:29)
They're a nice place to be. This is a B7 because of the facelift.
Ryan Lopez (1:32)
Oh.
Nick (1:32)
So B6, B7 were largely the same car. They just did a cosmetic outside difference. But if you're inside, you literally can't tell the difference.
Ryan Lopez (1:40)
Really?
Nick (1:40)
And it changed over in 2005.5.
It was like a mid-cycle refresh. They didn't change anything with the timing change, which would have been nice. But yeah, and you could get a B6, the B6, it came in the Nagaro Blue, which was really cool, with the Nagaro Blue Alcantara inserts. But all of them had these Recaro seats from factory. Again, a manual, a V8. They sound really good. They handle nice.
Sean (2:03)
360 horsepower is surprising.
Nick (2:05)
Yeah, and tons of aftermarket support.
Yeah, you can see them across the board. I love the Amola Yellow. There was Massano Red. You can get Sprint Blue. All of that is gonna cost you a premium and put you well over 10 grand, but tons of cool options out there.
Sean (2:18)
In typical Nick fashion, I feel like you're stretching to get one for 10 You're not scraping the bottom of the barrel, but you're definitely not getting the nicest Nagaro Blue.
Nick (2:27)
I mean, you sold one as cheap as $3,100. I'm pretty sure that one needed some work.
Another one bid to like eight. They're gettable under 10 I would recommend spending more in finding one that had the timing guides done. That can be expensive. But certainly, if you wanted the sedan or the B6, you could get in more comfortably.
Ryan Lopez (2:46)
B6, S4, Avant, manual, you get around 10 all day. There's the best one, which is that Nagara blue one on the Avis wheels. It's a six-speed manual swap, which is cool.
21,000 right there, but you can see 10,000, 14,000, 8,000 Nagara blues.
Nick (3:01)
The color adds a lot. And there are people like me who had these cars 20 years ago and still love those and imprinted in their brains. And now they're buying nicer ones. So there's definitely stratification of like collector-grade B7s and B6s. And then your run-of-the-mill ones.
Sean (3:17)
Ryan, will you just Google B7s4 timing chain?
And I just want to show the audience what it looks like when the car is apart. Look at this thing.
Nick (3:28)
So the main problem is it's on the back of the motor against the firewall. So the engine has to come out and it's these little plastic guides here, which you can see up there, around there, that got brittle and cracked and then gave out. And so it is such a complicated job.
Ryan Lopez (3:43)
Oh my God. That looks really cool.
Nick (3:45)
Enough Audi shops have done so many of these that they can kind of knock them out, but it is not a while you're in there or a couple of cold ones job.
