Janet, it's gonna be a fun hour. One of my favorite people, should I fan gush?

Janet Navatney King (0:37)

Oh, God, you always do.

Dr. Alice Jeromin (0:39)

Dr. Brian Peters is a wonderful favorite person, one of my favorite people, and I don't even remember where we met. He is the owner of Petology, a veterinary hospital in Naples, Florida. So if you are in the Southwest Florida area, this is your go-to vet clinic. My Gidget is having her dental done there, and you know how picky I am in a couple of months. A little bit about Dr. Peters. He's a graduate of University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine. Just saying.

He's also on the board of EveryCat, of the EveryCat Health Foundation, which is the largest nonprofit researching group for cats. And if you all know, cats are like second-class citizens. They've not had a lot of research done, but having said that, his group sponsored a fabulous webinar last night by Dr. Quimby, who is like the world expert on kidney disease in cats. So EveryCat Foundation, fabulous. And he's also our go-to person for the Southwest Florida Marine Mammal Rescue Team, of which I know he won't talk about that much. I want to ask about that. But he's also a vet that's there for any hurricane that we have. So I love Dr. Peters for various reasons. He's an excellent veterinarian, but he also gives so much back to the community. So we've got tons of stuff to ask him. And if we have any time left, we are going to play a breed lightning round. And that's going to be fun.

Janet will call out a breed. And Dr. Peters and I will shout out the first thing that comes to our mind.

Janet Navatney King (2:14)

Maybe we should start there. Just kidding.

Dr. Alice Jeromin (2:18)

Janet, why don't you start? Welcome, Dr. Peters. It's great to have you here.

Dr. Brian Peters (2:22)

I appreciate it. Thank you for the invite. And I know you have such amazing guests. You know, recently, you had Dr. Doug Mader and Dr. Catherine Pollock. And these are two vets that I really admire. So to follow them, you know, that's asking for a lot. But I'm going to try my best.

Janet Navatney King (2:41)

So let's start with what made you want to become a veterinarian? Like, how did this happen?

Dr. Brian Peters (2:46)

That's a good question. And you know, it's one of those things as we talk to, you know, you meet people and you just realize, how many people in your life have you met that has wanted to be something when they were very young and has gone through the route of doing that, you know? Not many. So I would say I was in grade school and I loved visiting the zoo. And, you know, when we travel with, I love reading, like just had a just a voracious appetite for reading up on different wild animals. And this was kind of this was all sort of pre social media, pre Internet, et cetera. And, you know, just just was just fascinated by it all. And initially thought I wanted to be a zoo vet and kind of went through the process of, of course, going through high school and then college. And then eventually got into veterinary school and and sort of said, I really like small animal medicine and like just being able to do a little bit of everything called the Swiss Army Knife from an opportunity. Well, eventually got through and and and, you know, I think every day I love this profession more and more. And and certainly, as you've mentioned, some of the other things that I do, you know, working with Florida Wildlife Commission or FWC and helping out with the future sort of dolphin health assessments.

You know, so getting getting my fix of of wild animals doing that.

And, you know, just just kind of being able to do a little bit of everything, which is such a fantastic we have such a fantastic profession.
