You're listening to The Drew Lane Show.

SPEAKER_2 (0:02)

Not about who you spend Saturday night with, it's who you spend all day Sunday with.

SPEAKER_4 (0:12)

Are you saying we're live?

SPEAKER_5 (0:14)

We're live?

SPEAKER_4 (0:15)

We're live? Hi.

The Lions are leading 44, 45 to 14 right now. There's actually time left in the game, but we want to get this thing out of the way so we can watch the Milwaukee Dodger game.

SPEAKER_6 (0:28)

Two fireballers, Skubal versus Misiorowski.

SPEAKER_7 (0:32)

What a great matchup.

SPEAKER_4 (0:33)

I can't remember being this excited about a postseason baseball game in a long time, honestly.

SPEAKER_6 (0:37)

Frankly, I prefer postseason baseball to regular season football, at least early in the season, so if there's a good playoff, like last night with the Guardians and the White Sox playing, I'm more interested in that than-

SPEAKER_4 (0:50)

What happened in game five? I missed game five.

SPEAKER_6 (0:52)

Two-nothing. Well, Ramirez had a two-run homerun, a ridiculously- In fact, it looked like Gibby when he reached out against-

SPEAKER_8 (0:58)

Yeah, he golfed it.

SPEAKER_6 (0:59)

He golfed it. Full extension, he barely swung and yet-

SPEAKER_4 (1:03)

So Cleveland's still alive.

SPEAKER_6 (1:05)

Yeah. How about that? It's not the last three, but should we talk about our Detroit Lions? Yeah.

SPEAKER_4 (1:09)

Eli's brought to you by Dr. Yael Doe.

SPEAKER_6 (1:12)

Very important game today. They were two and two. They come off a loss to Carolina. They started off terribly, one, two, three and out their first three series. Golf was sacked twice on the first two series.

Arizona comes down the field. Brilliant 14-play methodical drive behind Jacobi Brissett. You go, oh boy, this could be a very long season. And after that, in fact, the fourth down magic came back today. The Lions scored two touchdowns on fourth and one. Or maybe it was fourth and four the other time. And on each fourth down play, they threw passes and completed them all. So very interesting game, good game. From the fourth series on, it was all Lions.

Just remarkable. And Jahmyr Gibbs, another great game. Hitting the first half, well, let's not end the half. Let's see how they got there. They scored 24 unanswered points. Just a brilliant play, brilliant offensive play. And the defensive backfield, which had been rightly criticized for weeks, really came around. And even Roger McCreary, who I was laughing at, laughing at, but saying these are the cheap free agent defensive back the Lions got. And he had a very good game, as did DJ Reed. And so they turned it around. You got to give them credit getting two touchdowns.

SPEAKER_10 (2:35)

Jack Campbell showed up big time to me, too, man.

SPEAKER_7 (2:37)

Huge.

SPEAKER_6 (2:38)

And Sam Laporta, who was out the first few games of the season, had another outstanding day.

He caught two, did he catch two fourth-down passes he did today? And he hasn't...

SPEAKER_4 (2:50)

He had one fourth and one for the touchdown.

SPEAKER_7 (2:52)

Wow, he was wide open. Great play call.

SPEAKER_6 (2:54)

Nice call. It's almost like Ben Johnson was here calling the plays.

SPEAKER_10 (2:58)

Well, they did have a double reverse flea flicker screen pass, too.

SPEAKER_4 (3:02)

Yeah, to Gibbs, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_10 (3:04)

Another creative, great play.

SPEAKER_6 (3:06)

And when Arizona scored their first touchdown, a trick play to a guy who hadn't caught a pass in three seasons, forget his name, Quintorino or Quintoriano.

SPEAKER_10 (3:16)

Yeah, he had another touchdown, too.

SPEAKER_7 (3:18)

Two touchdowns today.

SPEAKER_6 (3:20)

What's going to happen?

SPEAKER_7 (3:21)

It's a tight end, wasn't it? Yeah.

SPEAKER_6 (3:23)

In fact, one of the listeners wrote in and asked if Gibbs is comparable to Barry. And I think he is, not so much as a runner, different type of runner, but great balance, great movement, speed, but he also adds the passing element that Barry never had. Barry would catch a few passes, but it was just a little flair out from the backfield.

SPEAKER_11 (3:44)

But he's as good as Jim Brown.

SPEAKER_4 (3:46)

I don't think Barry's hands were as good as Gibbs.

SPEAKER_7 (3:49)

No, not enough. That's what you're saying, right?

SPEAKER_6 (3:52)

But Wayne Fontz said to me once, I said, how come Barry doesn't catch more passes? And he says, Barry doesn't know what to do when the ball isn't in his hands. He's only good when he has the ball. He's not good without the ball. He's not sure where to go.

And that may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but he didn't run a lot of patterns.

SPEAKER_10 (4:11)

I always felt like Barry was like a punt returner on every play. Like he would have the ball and then just, it would be a punt return, right? Because he would just look for that hole. It was almost zone running.
