Disney is putting TikTok videos directly inside the Disney Plus streaming app.
**SPEAKER_3** (1:36)
Yeah.
**Stage Zero** (1:36)
They are taking an infrastructure built entirely on premium, highly controlled intellectual property and just, you know, deciding to open its gates to vertical user generated content.
**Stage Zero** (1:48)
Right.
**Stage Zero** (1:49)
You open the application and instead of just the traditional hundred million dollar movies and the heavily vetted television series, there's just a pipeline for social media clips.
**Stage Zero** (1:57)
You log in expecting a highly polished cinematic feature, something that took thousands of people years to render and produce, and you are presented with social media clips. The historical posture of this specific company is absolute control over its characters, its stories, the entire user experience from the physical parks to the screens. Everything is sanitized and micromanaged.
**Stage Zero** (2:19)
Yeah, completely locked down.
**Stage Zero** (2:20)
So allowing independent fan creators to exist inside that walled garden, it alters the core value proposition. I mean, if a subscriber is paying for exclusive access to a certain tier of quality, introducing a format they can scroll through for free on their phone, it changes the relationship between the user and the platform.
**Stage Zero** (2:40)
And the specific intellectual properties they are feeding into this pilot program are their most protected assets. They are using Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX. These user created videos are going to live in a dedicated section on the platform they are calling Verts.

**Stage Zero** (3:03)
So you have the traditional horizontal movie player, the grid of movie posters and now the separate silo explicitly designed for vertical scrolling.
**Stage Zero** (3:11)
Yeah.
The decision to brand at Verts indicates this is a promoted standalone experience. It's competing for attention right alongside the theatrical releases. They're taking characters that usually require a board of directors to approve a script change and handing them over to opt-in creators.
**Stage Zero** (3:28)
I have doubts about Verts as a concept for a paying audience. The assumption here is that a subscriber who pays a premium monthly fee actually wants short form social media mixed into that experience.
**Stage Zero** (3:39)
Which they might not.
**Stage Zero** (3:41)
Right. Entertainment companies are clearly scrambling because consumer attention spans are shrinking. And the reaction from legacy media is to just mimic the platform stealing that attention.
Slapping a vertical scroll into a premium app feels like a misreading of why people open that specific app in the first place.
**Stage Zero** (3:59)
Yeah, the intent is different.
**Stage Zero** (4:00)
Exactly. When a family sits down to watch a Marvel movie, they are looking for immersion. They're trying to escape the fragmented energy of their phones.
Bringing that exact energy into the premium environment assumes all screen time is interchangeable. It ignores the psychology of why we choose different screens for different moods.
**Stage Zero** (4:18)
Well, you look at the financial leadership pushing this through to understand the motivation. This is the first full quarter under CEO Josh DeMauro.
