SPEAKER_3 (0:18)

We've already been running around, taking pictures with everything.

Dan (0:21)

Playing games.

SPEAKER_3 (0:23)

All right. But right now, we're here to talk all things Diablo.

And joining us are Tiffany and Matt. Welcome.

Dan (0:32)

Hello.

Matt (0:32)

Hey. Thanks for having us.

SPEAKER_3 (0:34)

So let's dive into this.

Tiffany (0:35)

All right.

SPEAKER_3 (0:36)

Diablo. Obviously having a massive year.

Tiffany (0:40)

30 years.

SPEAKER_3 (0:40)

Yeah. 30th anniversary. And then over 130 million players have walked the path to hell. Pretty incredible, right? Yeah.

Matt (0:49)

We're very excited to see tons of fans come out and enjoy Diablo here at Blizzcon.

SPEAKER_3 (0:55)

Yeah. And like showing no signs of stopping either. Just keep going. Massive announcement. Diablo V.

You heard the crowds cheering and screaming for it.

Tiffany (1:05)

It was very energizing.

SPEAKER_3 (1:06)

Yeah.

Tiffany (1:07)

Such whatever the positive version of like weighed off my chest to finally be able to tell the world what we've been working on.

SPEAKER_3 (1:13)

Yeah.

I can't imagine the feeling when you're there on stage revealing that moment. Can you walk us through what was in your head?

Tiffany (1:21)

Sure. I mean, the room was so alive. I mean, we were talking about so many great things that have come to Diablo. Like you were saying, this year we announced the Amazon. We have the Season of Hell's Legacy for Diablo IV. We've just had an incredible year with the Paladin and the Warlock. So I felt like it was just growing energy the more and more we were talking. I was like, we're going to land this. They're going to be blown away.

And when that logo landed and Diablo was in the smoke and ashes, I mean, the room just erupted. And I knew that was going to happen just because I could feel it coming.

And that's how I feel every time I think about Diablo V. But it's just so gratifying to finally be able to share with the world, just the world we've been creating. And we've just been so excited to talk about it for quite a bit now.

Matt (2:14)

Yeah, seeing the logo reveal come together on the lead up to Blizzcon, I had a similar reaction to Tiffany of just seeing it come together. I mean, like, yeah, we're doing this. This is going to happen. It's going to be real.

Players are going to love it.

SPEAKER_2 (2:28)

One of the things Blizzard has always done a really good job of is keeping games going. Like, we new character for Heroes of the Storm today. Warcraft 3 gets a whole new campaign. And of course, there were tons of announcements around Diablo 4, which we'll be talking about here in a couple of minutes.

Diablo 2 resurrected, it got the warlock this year. Diablo Immortal is getting tons of stuff too. As all these ideas are floating around, how do you go, you know what, like the idea we have is too big for anything that currently exists and it's time for a new era of Diablo.

Matt (3:00)

Yeah, I think it starts really by making sure we understand our players super well.

You said it yourself, there's like many different versions of Diablo now. We've got 30 years of Diablo, 130 million players. Over the years, we've accumulated quite a collection of different types of players. There's players who love the story and the characters, players who love the dark fantasy vibes, players who want to build craft and theory craft and min-max their character and grind for loot and everybody in between, people who want to jump on Discord or you know, just play with their friends, right? So we have a lot of different types of Diablo players. And so that's really inspiring for us. We're able to look at each of those types of players and say, well, what's going to make the best, most authentic Diablo game for them? And I think that's where we start. We start there and we start, you know, get in the room and start thinking about what features need to come together to make the best possible Diablo game.

SPEAKER_3 (3:49)

Yeah. In the Diablo V reveal trailer, there was one moment that gave me chills and it was when the text Sanctuary Falls shows up. How do you even begin to craft a world where the heroes have lost?
