The Bill Simmons Podcast is brought to you by the Ringer Podcast Network, where we have a new rewatchable coming for you on Monday. We did Apollo 13, a movie that somehow we had not done yet, even though we've done almost 450 movies. So that is coming for you on Monday. It's an action-packed week for me on The Ringer. I'm on Sean Fantasy's Big Picture Podcast doing a movie draft. I am on Wait A Second with Jason Concepcion this week. On Tuesday, the fantasy football guys, Craig, Danny, and Danny are going to be on this podcast. We're going to do our annual My Guy Fantasy Draft. Then Thursday, we have me and Sal doing NFC Overrunners Part 1 will be Thursday live on Netflix. Then Friday, live on Netflix, we are doing the second annual Ringer Fantasy Football Draft.
Football is here. This will be my last non-NFL podcast for a while. Joe House coming on first to do a mailbag. Bob Chesney, new coach of UCLA for football coming on. We actually went to UCLA. We filmed like a 45-minute interview with them.
My goal is to get you to UCLA. At least, even if you don't care, I secretly hope they win because he has a tall task ahead of him. But I have a lot of belief he's going to pull it off. So that's the pod. We're going to take a break. Pearl Jam and then Joe House mailbag time.
This episode is brought to you by PNC Bank. Today's sports, everyone is constantly trying to outdo each other. Trick formations, in-field shifts, constant rotation changes. And yet, it's proven time and time again that strong fundamentals are the thing that will lead you to victory. And banking is no different. While everyone tries to outdo each other, PNC Bank just keeps going right down the middle with steady calculated money moves. And the financial wins, they just keep coming. PNC Bank, brilliantly boring since 1865, brilliantly boring since 1865, is a registered member of the PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., PNC Bank National Association member, FDIC.
I record in this part of the podcast. It is mid-afternoon Pacific time. I just watched the Red Sox sweep the Giants. Fenway Park was a live house. Boston was alive. Really, the Scots and the Jalen Brown trade turned around the Red Sox season and Boston. Fenway's packed. Everybody's happy. The game last night, my dad went. He stayed the whole game with my uncle Chuck. They came back, they won in the ninth. And it's just, when you have a good baseball team, it really energizes the city. It's unbelievable.
**Joe House** (3:37)
Yeah. I'd like to invite the Red Sox to eat a fat dick because I bet them consecutive games against the athletics. What was that? Two weeks ago, a week ago?
**Bill Simmons** (3:49)
Yeah.
**Joe House** (3:50)
There's the worst team in baseball who is openly-
**Bill Simmons** (3:53)
We were due to have a couple of bad games.
**Joe House** (3:56)
The athletics are trying to lose. I know.
But I will say the 12, the one to win the World Series and whatever we have them at to win the pennant for the Red Sox. I'm a rational economic actor even though it's distasteful.
**Bill Simmons** (4:10)
I can't figure out the season anymore. They had a guy that won the game last night who came from Poteca with a five-year array. I'd never heard of him.
I followed the Red Sox diligently and I'm in an AO keeper league. I was like, I don't know who this guy is, Olds, and he won the game. We have Sogard, we have Mickey Gasper, who's now his nickname is Mickey Gas, came in, just started hitting bombs for like eight days. He might be going down this week. Roman Anthony comes back. It's so funny when you have these baseball seasons when random no-name guys get hot. You just don't understand what's happening as it's happening, and then all of a sudden you have a chance in the playoffs. Anyway, enough about the Red Sox.
**Joe House** (4:51)
It's part of the charm. Well, we're going to miss a whole season of it next year.
