Thanks for watching.
He is a pastor, author and former NFL player. He's also the founder and lead pastor of Transformation Church in Indian land, South Carolina. So if you want to know his football bona fides, he was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts and played for them from 1993 to 1997 And then he played for the Carolina Panthers in 1998 He's even wearing a Carolina Panthers sweatshirt as we get into that. And that's where our conversation begins. We start talking about football. We talk a little bit about NIL and Transfer Portal. And he and I have some pretty differing opinions on that. But we get into it from his perspective, like having athletes that, you know, grew up in his house, being an athlete himself. Then we transition to talking a little bit more about some of the cultural things. You know, how did culture get to be the way that it is? You can tell there's some differences there, even political, between he and I. And that's actually a good thing, as I even talk through that. You can tell that there are several things that he and I disagree on or don't feel the exact same way about during this interview. And it was great. And he and I were chatting about it off air. And he's just like, yeah, I don't know why people can't just have conversations with people that don't agree with them 100% of the time. Because guys, if that's your standard for having a conversation with somebody, especially a public one, they have to agree with me 100% of the time, you're going to be screaming into the void because you're going to have no one to talk to. Okay. But we talked about that. Talked about a political progressivism. We talked about Islam. We talked about holding our politicians to a higher standard of personal morality. We got into the Ligonier Lifeways stuff that I've talked about a ton, that state of theology survey and kind of what that means for humanity. But then we talk about his newest book. He's authored several, but his newest book is called It's Time to Heal, Four God-Given Steps to Restore What Life Has Shattered. And so he just gets into forgiveness and how we get to that place and what it does to our brain when we forgive. And guys, hearing him talk about his really broken relationship with his father, but then where it ended up, where there was forgiveness, where there was reconciliation, because I asked him about it because the book's dedicated to his late father.
You know, who abandoned him, who allowed some of these terrible things to happen to him. And to hear Derwin talk about how he was able to get to a place of forgiveness in his heart before it was even coming out of his mouth. Man, it's a tremendous work of the gospel. Guys, it's a tremendous interview as it always is with Derwin Gray. I'm not going to keep him from you any longer. So without further ado, let's get into it.
Hey, Derwin, we got to stop running into each other like this. This is your third appearance, I think, if my math serves me correctly. And if you get to five, you will have gotten all the punch cards on your ticket, and then you'll be able to redeem that for something awesome. So you're working your way towards that.
Derwin Gray (4:26)
Hey, I love that, man. And I'm hoping that what's redeemable is like a brand new pin spinning rod and reel so that when it cools down in the fall, I can catch that 10 pound large mouth bass I've been eagerly seeking for the last several years.
