Today, we're taking a look at Derive, one of Crypto's best projects that nobody talks about. And the real reason why is this is looking like an undiscovered gem. Over the last 30 days, in the options side here, Options Premium Volume, you have one protocol that is absolutely dominating above everyone else. Nine out of every $10 is moving on this protocol. And this summer, a New York Stock Exchange listed custodian plugged its institutional clients straight into it. DRV is well under the main market cap list. When you look at the number, it's number 218 in terms of size of project by market cap. So today, we got to talk about what is derived, what derived does, and why traditional finance is starting to show up to this very undiscovered protocol, how these fees actually reach the token, and what the DRV token could be worth if this goes where it looks like it's headed. But first, to understand this, we must talk about what is an option. You have to think about insurance. Say that you own one Ethereum, and you're a little nervous about the next month, so you pay, say, $100 for the right to sell that Ethereum at today's price when the protection expires in 30 days from now. If the Ethereum crashes, then you're covered. But on the flip side, if it rips, you're out $100. It's like an insurance premium that you don't really need. This is an option, and funds use this to protect their larger positions, traders on the retail side and kind of local trading levels use them to bet on big moves, and people holding Bitcoin and Ethereum sell them to earn extra yield. And in crypto, the giant is Deribit, centralized exchange Coinbase bought over the last year for about $2.9 billion.
Derive is the on-chain version of this.
Same kind of trading, but your money sits in Ethereum smart contracts instead on an exchange book. There really is no denying that this is growing fast. Derive's option volumes this year are absolutely exploding. This year already, nearly three times of all of 2025 in terms of volume. And over the last 30 days, it's running at a pace of $54 billion a year. And now the juicy part that most people miss, who's showing up to the party. In August, Bitco, a custodian listed on the New York Stock Exchange, announced an integration with Derive, an eligible institutional clients, can trade Derive's options while their collateral stays inside Bitco Bank and Trust. This is a national trust bank regulated by the OCC.
And now why this matters is particularly the most important part. You have to picture a fund that's holding a thousand Bitcoin at Bitco. It wants to sell covered calls for that yield or buy puts before a Federal Reserve meeting. Before, that usually meant sending coins to an exchange and then taking that exchange risk. We all remember how that went down with FTX. There's a little bit of lessons to be learned that are being fixed. Under the announced integrations, these coins stay within the bank and the trade happens on Derive custody. Here, execution there, and that's how Wall Street already works. And it's not just Bitco. You also have FalconX, a major institutional crypto broker, quotes Derive's option markets and is set up built with strands like Destrade on Derive, while their assets continue to stay in cold storage in custodians like Anchorage or Fireblocks and Copper. And then you have the second door, where traditional assets themselves come on chain and Derive, launched options on XAUT, a token backed by physical gold. And that's the first real world asset market. Gold options are a massive, tradified business. By our estimate, more than $8 trillion of traded COMEX happened last year. And as it sits, Derive has not listed stocks or indexes, but gold is now live. And V3 was built with separate risk pools, so now that real world markets are able to launch without putting the rest of the exchange at risk. And that takes us to the major catalyst for something like this to take off.
This week, Derive launched that V3. It moved off of its own chain and now settles on Ethereum itself with zero knowledge proofs, checking every batch of trades, and there's an escape hatch to actually withdraw through Ethereum, even if Derive's operator goes offline. That's a huge insurance premium to be added on. That's the new kind of design a risk committee wants to see. So a very interesting project, a very interesting approach, and a good timing for something like this to be released. But how does any of this value reach the actual token? Token, from a TA standpoint, has gone ballistic. But you have to start with new money. Derive makes its money off trading fees. Right now, keeps about $1.1 for every $10,000 of options traded. If you add perps and spot revenue, that's roughly $7 million a year in revenue for this project. Now, you have to keep in mind, a share of those fees actually buy the DRV token on the open market. Today, that share is about 35%.
