Denver Broncos defense punched back against Bo Nix’s offense on Day 2 of training camp

Happy Saturday, everyone, and happy Colorado Day. Happy 150th birthday to the single greatest state in the union, the state of Colorado. We absolutely love it here, and we couldn't be happier to be joining you on this beautiful Saturday in Colorado. And also, we couldn't be happier to be going to the Xfinity Mobile Call-In Line, where we have our friend, Zac Stevens, coming to you live from the Broncos Training Facility.
What is going on, Z?

Fellas, I'm ready to go. The Broncos are back. Weekend football for the first time in forever. And we're going to have weekend football now all the way through February. So I'm pumped. Had a great practice today. Got a tour of the inside of the new facility, which was cool. Got some stadium updates, got some Broncos on the field updates. I'm ready to go, fellas.

All right. Well, it sounds like you have a lot of updates. So let's get up to date.

**Zac Stevens** (0:59)
Got a lot of updates. Let's just start off with Bo Nix and the Broncos offense had big plays today. But then the defense ultimately won the day. Let's just start off with Bo's day. Bo started off about as good as you could. He was dynamic in seven on sevens, had some great plays, but then he started off team period about as good as you could get. He used his superpower, as Sean Payton called it, his little off schedule plays and using his feet to find Pat Bryant for a 40 yard touchdown in the very first play of team period. This was coming off of a day where Bo was absolutely on fire. This was like, oh my gosh, is Bo Nix going to make this defense look bad, even though we know this defense is fantastic? Pat Bryant, right after he caught the pass, he made a little shimmy to get the safety to run past him, then took it into the end zone. But then after that, for the next three team periods, the defense said, no, no, no, no, we're not gonna let you beat us two days in a row. The defense absolutely clamped down. I feel like everyone on the defense got a PBU from Zac Allen, Malcolm Roach, and then of course to all the cornerbacks as well. So it was a really fun, competitive day. The Broncos packed a lot in on their final practice before pads come on, on Monday.

Yeah, there was a lot of stuff going on. A Bo talk today for the first time in training camp. What did we learn from Bo?

**Zac Stevens** (2:23)
He did. Yeah, Bo is back to normal. He said it feels great to be out there with his teammates. He said he has absolutely no limitations, which is exactly what you wanted to hear. This week has been a perfect week for Bo in terms of just our dream, how we would have built this week a couple of months ago, knowing about his injury. It's this week.
It's been happening and playing out this week, guys. So fantastic news on that front.
And in terms of his ankle, will it slow him down? He said, absolutely not. John Payton said, that's his superpower, it's his ability to run and create plays not only as a running, as a runner, but also just be able to buy time behind the backfield, like we saw with that play with Pat Bryant today. So he is going to continue to run. And then he was asked about this being like a semi-contract year for him because he can get paid after this season and how he approaches that. And he said, I don't approach it any different because I approach every single year as a contract year. So absolutely love that answer. I know that Bo never gets phased by the pressure. He only gets better when there's pressure, but he's not even adding pressure to himself this year. But guys, if you want to think about it, there might be like $400 million on the table for him this season. So good thing he's not phased by pressure because there could be a lot on him this year. It was good to see Bo. He truly is 100% healthy. And as he said, nothing's holding him back.

Someone in the comments mentioned a question he was asked about the change in play callers and what we thought of his answer. First, give us the answer and then we'll discuss how we think about it.

**Zac Stevens** (3:57)
Yeah, so his answer was there's not going to be much change at all. And I did find one thing interesting. He said maybe the only thing that changes is that Sean Payton would just call the play into him and then just be done. He said Davis calls the play in and then gives a little couple of tips right after. And what's interesting is we kind of were under the impression that Sean Payton was just talking the whole time in his headset, not leaving him alone. And the play calls were so long and that was kind of allowing, making him get to the line later and we wanted more time for both. We wanted less talking and that clearly wasn't the case.
