But we got some good news, I guess. I don't know if it's good news or not. This still is cornerback, Joey Porter Jr has been upgraded to the remaining roster, and your guy, what's his name?
Mike Flores, he said, is no surprise, he's not injured. He's simply waiting for a contract he hasn't got. With Joey Porter Jr using the term hold in, he bypasses mandatory training camp absence fees of 50K a day. Here's the news though, he said, once the regular season starts, refusing to practice or play constitutes conduct detrimental to the team and unused and unexcused miss games. Joe, I'm going to say this.
I don't know if this is over with yet, but very smart to come back because you do have that. Now, when it comes down to it, I don't believe personally that he plays if before the start of the season, there is not a contract in place. If it's me, what I'm going to do is be like, yo, I'm feeling better. I'm coming back, I'm practicing. So, you know, hopefully as I start practicing, my back doesn't tighten back up. It doesn't lock back up because you got what? 14 days before the first game starts, and a lot can happen in those 14 days.
**Joe Haden** (1:44)
So now you're talking about wear and tear. I hear you, but now you're saying you're going back out to the practice field.
**James Harrison** (1:50)
Yes, I'm going to the practice field. Why? I need to make the 53-man roster.
**Joe Haden** (1:54)
I need to be active.
**James Harrison** (1:55)
I need to have what I got. Right.
So, I'm going to go to practice. I'm going to do the practice. Okay. I'm going to be very careful as I practice, of course. But you're talking about the game is 14 days away. I haven't had any training camp work. So, that's a lot of wear and tear on a guy's body that ain't had no training camp work. And you know, the crazy thing is about back issues, dude, you can look at a back on an X-ray and an MRI and be in excruciating pain and it looks perfectly fine. And then you could take somebody such as myself, as you look at the back on an MRI and you look at it and you're like, yo, you should be messed up right now. You should be horrible, to be horrible, messed up. And you can be fine.
So with that being said, like, of course I'm coming back. I'm going to be there practicing and all that. But before that Saturday hit or that regular season game, if I ain't got a contract, my back will lock up that night.
**Joe Haden** (2:53)
My back gonna be locked up.
**Jeff Hafley** (2:56)
How do you think this works out?
**Joe Haden** (2:58)
That just is what it is. I hope, I always want to be so hopeful in these situations because when I see players like, when this was happening with, when did they end up giving TJ his contract before? It was it, was it? I don't know, I gotta go back and check because I just realized like, the thing that throws me off sometimes is when you play in the league and when you know, like some stuff is just, it is what it is. Like there's a player that's been performing, he's drafted by you guys, he's done nothing wrong and it's just the deal should be getting done. Like there's TJ, where the TJ is where his obviously he's going to reset, he was going to reset the market because his sacks, his numbers, he stayed out of the way. He was defensive player of the year, all pros and first teams and the sacks, literally the numbers put him to be in that position. And when the teams start to like just wait and hold off, it's like, guys, you know, it's not if but when. The contract is going to get done. It has to get done because they're going to be on the squad and they're a part of your team that you need. They don't do nothing wrong in the locker room. They're great in the community. They're great on the field. So it's just, it's time for them to get paid. So I'm hoping that this is the way where the same thing happens where it's, I don't know why organizations seem to just, you know, like it's done. You have a dude on your squad that wants to be there, that you know deserves to have the type of money. So I, and I'm still trying to figure out, have they sent up the, at least get into the talking about it.
