Okay, boom, so clear cut. He plays the first game, it's not a great game. Like he didn't, he threw the pick, you know what I'm saying, he got a strip sack. So that people have reason to ask question about, okay, how much longer is it gonna be out there? After the last game, you can say now, oh yeah, it's funny how y'all wanna ask, because you were saying you can't really guarantee if he was gonna be able to start after that. So it is based on performance. So you won't be getting questions about Deshaun. I'm not asking if Deshaun was gonna start after that game, because after that second game, that was a good game by Deshaun. He played really, really well. It was offense line, it was some running backs, missing stuff, it was Denzel Boston. If he would have caught that, he got three tuddies for 260 yards. You know what I'm saying? I'm like, Deshaun, that's perfect ball. We can win with that football. So I'm like, that's why I say, coach, don't think, we're not asking questions about the quarterback for no reason. Like now it's all fun, you can come in here and say that, because he played well and we're not pressing it. It's good. Deshaun look well, please continue this and continue to move forward. So we don't have to be asking you about what's our quarterback position looking like.
James Harrison (1:06)
Yeah, definitely. Hey Joe.
Joe Haden (1:09)
Yes.
James Harrison (1:10)
You know, my daddy, man, before he passed, man, he used to tell me, you always look a man in the eye before you kill him. And I got to ask you a question, I want to look at you in your eye.
Joe Haden (1:27)
Yes.
James Harrison (1:28)
So say Todd Monken is right, and Deshaun gets better, and he plays better throughout the year, and he gets better each game, and y'all fans actually start to back him. He's playing well, he's making plays. Matter of fact, looks like he may make some type of all-pro. Everything is going great, Joe.
Season's over with. So, can you tell me, Joe, what are y'all going to do in the process of trying to figure out if y'all or if you would keep this quarterback who just got y'all into the playoffs, maybe got y'all a game away from an AFC championship game?
What are y'all going to do when it comes time for him to leave? Because this is last year in the contract. Are you in a position now where you got to sit there as I told y'all? This is why I'm hoping he goes good. So, I could see what y'all got to do. If y'all got to get his man another 230 or more, because right now, if he goes and does this, and he gets like an all pro or something like that, Joe, and he goes and does playoffs, and he gets him a couple of wins, Joe, that's 50
Joe Haden (2:53)
Deebo, James, Aaron.
James Harrison (2:56)
Hey, hey, hey, and here's the crazy thing. I think this is really backfiring on y'all, because your owner really wanted to get the young man in over there in Texas, and he was hoping Deshaun would play bad, but Deshaun is ruining his plans right now.
That's all, Joe. What do you think, Joe? What'd they go do?
Joe Haden (3:22)
Deshaun's, in June of next season, Deshaun Watson is going to be, oh, he's going to be 86 or 87 million to the cap if we don't let him go by June 1st.
I hear what you're saying. We, after that $230 million, I don't see, I will be so glad for Deshaun Watson because he showed that he can be a franchise quarterback for another team.
I think that he will be able to, somebody else will have to pay him. I'm glad that he will be able, because I don't think Deshaun Watson will want to really be in Cleveland. I don't think, I think the, it's not, it's not here. Not here. After the $230. 87?
James Harrison (4:08)
What? Make you, I'd go, I'd go to everywhere but hell for 87 No?
Joe Haden (4:17)
Well, look, if worse, worse comes to worse, worse comes to worse.
I don't think we can franchise. I don't even know if in this contract, in this contract, I don't think we could tag him either. So, yeah, I'm not.
James Harrison (4:32)
That's why you don't put him out there, Joe.
Joe Haden (4:34)
I know. No, no, no. You put him out there because you actually, if you really think that you're going to, for the Haslums, you already paid him 200 million. You got another, what was it? 230 some million. And he has only 40 left this year on the deal. So if you want to go do me something, let's let me see if I can get the best out of you. And if you can, like you say, go to the playoffs, do whatever you can. OK, we ended up, it didn't work, but now we're not going to. We can't continue to pay that or we know. No, I don't think so, brother.
