Hello and welcome to Deadpod for the week of October 9, 2026 This is the Professor, I'm so glad you could pick us up this week. This week, we're going back 54 years to the band's performance at the Winterland Arena in San Francisco on October 9, 1972

This one starts out with a rather unusual appearance by Grace Slick, who takes the stage at the beginning of the second set and proceeds to give a drunken, stone rap. I decided to leave it in mainly for historical purposes. Hopefully, you'll get a kick out of it. Bill Graham eventually escorts her from the stage and the band goes into He's Gone. The set in general is, I think, well played. It's a nice recording. Jerry's vocals are, in my opinion, particularly sweet and I really enjoy hearing them, especially on songs like Mississippi Half-Step and Brokedown Palace. I think they do a great job there.

There's some wonderful jamming and some unique jamming and Truckin and The Other One. And great set all around. Unfortunately, Casey Jones, the final song, is cut off and just fades out. And we don't have what should have been reported to be the encore of Johnny B.
