Oh, thank you so much for being here this morning to our family service. Take a good look around. Take a great look around. It is so good to all be together. Some of you are like, I haven't seen these people here forever. We've been having two services since, let's see, March, April, May, April, sorry, April of this year, and some of you haven't missed each other. Because one thing that we've noticed that I really didn't anticipate is like, we show up now like at 901 or 915 and 1115 And so there's not a lot of crossovers. So some of you are missing people. I would just encourage you to switch up the services that you're coming to, make sure you're connecting with people. Because we are still one church with two opportunities to be in God's presence. And so if you're missing people, if you're looking around the room and you're like, oh, I want to sit by them next time, we'll find out what service they're coming to and join in with them. But we do appreciate you being here today. If we haven't got the opportunity to meet, my name is Kevin, my wife Mel here. We are honored to lead at New Vision. And in a couple of weeks, we'll be celebrating seven years here at the church.
And that is incredible.
It's incredible all that God is doing. And so we want to invite you back next week. We'll be back to our regular routine of two services. So if you come next week, some of you came for the nine o'clock early, and we'll be finding out who's showing up for the 11 o'clock here in about an hour. We'll see. We'll see when they show up. But we have two services each week at nine and 11 Please be here next week as we continue on our series, Stories We Thought We Knew.
When you came in, parents of kids, you should have received a packet when you came in, or you should have been able to grab it from our hospitality team. There's an elementary packet and a 3K packet. Just some things to help keep your kids engaged. If you have elementary kids, there's a sermon guide in there. There's also questions for you to talk through, either on your way home, or maybe later this week, as you think about what God is doing and saying today. But this is one of my favorite series. I enjoy each week that we're in it, going back to the stories that a lot of us heard when we were kids. And as we do that, God shows us something that we didn't see before. And I say this almost every time I get the opportunity, but that's really because Hebrews tells us that God's word is living and active. And so like think about the story that we're talking about today is David & Goliath. And when I was a kid, like it was the David & Goliath thing, like the little guy can beat the big guy. Like we celebrate that so incredible. But today I see the story so much bigger than that. I see how God prepares ordinary people for extraordinary moments.
Maybe today you're standing in front of a situation that seems far too big for you. There's a decision, there's a diagnosis, there's a relationship decision, there's temptation, there's fear. Maybe you've been standing there and you're just wondering, God, what's going on? Why am I here? Why haven't you shown up and done something about what's in front of me?
I believe that today's story will remind us that God is doing much more than we realize. But I don't want to get too far into it. So to introduce the story today, I'm going to pray and I'm going to invite my friend Chris back out and he's going to tell us the story of David and Goliath. Let's pray. Jesus, thank you for today. Thank you for this time that we get to be together in your house, in your presence. I pray that as we hear your word this morning, that our hearts would be open to you. We would hear your voice and we would be willing to respond. Lord, you know what we're all facing. You know the things that we're worrying about, you know the things we're excited about. So Lord, I pray that today in your presence, you change us, speak to us, encourage us, challenge us, convict us. We're open. So we give you our best as we look into your word. God, I pray that you would anoint me to communicate your word to your people. Help me to do it clearly and confidently in a way that people hear your voice much more than my own.
