But let's find our places. 1 John chapter 1, we'll begin reading in verse number 5, down through the end of the chapter. So 1 John chapter 1, verse number 5, our series title is, Full Fellowship Brings Full Joy. That God wants us to have fellowship with the Father, fellowship with Himself, and that when we have fellowship with God, based on the Word of God, it's real and it brings joy. And so, verse number 5, John writes, This then is the message, which we have heard of Him and declare unto you. This is what you have to know if you're going to have fellowship with God, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us. This is, John is laying it straight on the line. I mean, not black and white, lightness and light and darkness. Clearly, God wants us to have fellowship with Him, but here's our title this morning.
Darkness cannot have fellowship with light. Last week, our title was Fellowship with the Light. That God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. And so fellowship that brings joy is fellowship with the light. But we have to understand this. Darkness cannot have fellowship with light. Let's pray and ask the Lord's help. Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning. Lord, I just ask for your help, for your enablement to clearly communicate these very important, these pivotal truths of your word, Lord. I want to have fellowship with you. Those who are in this room, I believe, want to have fellowship with you. But I pray, Lord, that you would help us to understand your word, that we would believe it, that we would obey it, that we would find the answers that are in your word. Please speak, Lord. Please help us not only hear, but to obey. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Darkness cannot have fellowship with light.
I want to challenge you that there is nothing more important than this life, in this life, for then for you to personally have fellowship with God today. To personally have fellowship with God. God has created us differently from the rest of his creation. He created us to have fellowship with each other and to have fellowship with God. God created the human race in the image of God so that we are capable of having fellowship with God and with one another. This is one of the terrible lies of evolution. We are, that we're just full, we're the highest form of animal. Well, one man put it this way. When God created Adam, he did not make an animal. He made a person. And God gave Adam a mind to receive truth and to respond to that truth and to know God. He gave Adam emotions so that he could receive the love of God and respond to God. He gave Adam a will so that when he received a revelation of the will of God, he might respond and submit to the will of God. Now, Adam had to a limited degree, the same capacity that God possessed in an infinite degree. OK, God is light in him as doctors at all. The mind of God is perfect. He reasons he has God has emotions, all of that. And yet he is perfect. And yet God created the human race different than everything else. I'm not trying to insult anybody, but your dog is not a human being. Your pets are not, OK? You may think they are feeling what you feel, and yes, they're moved with emotions, but they do not have a soul. That's different for human beings, because we're created in the image of God. And we're created in the image of God, so that we can have fellowship with God, and fellowship one with another. I want to challenge you, true joy in this life is not found in fulfilling all of your base desires, but in fellowship with God and with other believers. The wisdom of this world, and the psychiatrist, and all of the counselors of this world, and the world's wisdom, tell you that the more you're free to act like an animal, the more restrictions that come off your life, the happier you're going to be. Is not that the wisdom of this world. I'm not trying to mock or make fun. That's literally what children are being taught in school, is that the restrictions of society and the moral compass of society is oppressive. And we need to put this off. If you want to be happy, do whatever you want.
