daine covers Martin Solveig & Dragonette's 'Hello' for Like A Version

Like A Version! With Abbie and Tyrone. Before Like A Version and after Like A Version is kind of the anchor point of an Australian musician's life, I think.

SPEAKER_3 (0:21)

Jamming with the happy pretty intimidating song, like you hear it, and it sounds like the uncoverable.

SPEAKER_2 (0:28)

The verses are great. They're so well written and they make me feel really sexy when I'm singing them.

SPEAKER_1 (0:33)

Like A Version on Triple J.

Abbie (0:35)

On Triple J breakfast, Abby and Tyrone with you, and we are so excited that we have the wonderful Dane in the studio with us. Dane, welcome to Triple J. How are you?

Dane (0:43)

Thank you. I'm great. Hi, Abby and Tyrone. Hello.

Abbie (0:46)

We are so, we're so happy that you're here. We're so happy you're doing Like A Version. I mean, have you watched any Like A Versions in preparation? How's the planning been?

Dane (0:55)

To be honest, I haven't because I don't want it to like influence like how I do it. Like I went in fully knowing, like not knowing what camera to look at or where to look or how to carry myself.

I have no idea how this is going to go down. High pressure.

Abbie (1:11)

No. High pressure. You're going to slay it. Honestly, it's one of these weeks where we are as excited for the original as we are the cover. Before we find out which of your own songs you're going to be taking on, we were doing a little bit of research. We were on your YouTube, and I was watching this old tour vlog of yours from London. Were you talking to Pink Pantherous in that video, that show?

Was she just there as a fan?

Dane (1:33)

I was at her birthday, like I think a few days before that, and I was like, do you want to come to the show? So real one. That's a real one, yeah.

Abbie (1:40)

I also saw in that video that there was someone who had flown from Italy to come to your show.

Dane (1:45)

Yeah, and I still remember all of those people. That fan's name is Chris, and I love Chris. We're still in touch with Chris.

I'm very close with all of my long-term fans. I have an internet friendship with them all.

Tyrone (2:00)

And now the fan base has just, I feel like, grown over the years, and you're including fans like Ollie Sykes and Charlie XCX, and recently, Kim Petras giving you a shout out as well. I'm not sure if you saw this, but I was watching an interview of yours online, and there was a comment saying, Love your vibes' from, I'm not sure if you're across Jedwood, the identical Irish twins. Who is this?

Dane (2:24)

Oh my god, is this a rabbit hole that I need to go down?

Tyrone (2:27)

Absolutely. I feel like Jedwood is a bit of Dane.

Abbie (2:30)

Yeah, I also feel like if you're leaning into the millennial optimism of it all, Jedwood, you need to, were they all like, Britain's Got Talent or something? X Factor.

Tyrone (2:38)

You need to even just getting a visual right now and getting your real, real reaction to Jedwood.

Abbie (2:43)

Because one's named Edward and the other ones, I actually don't know what the other one is.

Dane (2:46)

Oh, it's a joint net. That is so funny.

Abbie (2:48)

It's John and Edward, and they won an X Factor in 2008

Tyrone (2:51)

And they are known for their hair.

Dane (2:54)

Oh my god.

Abbie (2:55)

Oh my god, wait, no, I've seen that. No, they know me.

Tyrone (2:58)

They love your vibes. They don't just know you. Mama, they love your vibes.

Dane (3:05)

I love their vibes. That's kind of like the look that I'm trying to give right now. Like, it's very like Nordic alien. Not Nordic the race, Nordic alien. Like, it's a species of alien that has apparently visited Earth. There's conspiracy theories. But I've been really trying to like have that look, and I feel like they have that.

Abbie (3:21)

You're going to go down the Jedwood rabbit hole, and we'll go down the Nordic alien rabbit hole. But before any of those rabbit holes, we have you here to perform an original. Now, you have a whole upcoming album full of potential songs to choose from. Please tell us, what will you be performing as your original?

Dane (3:37)

I think this is the fan favourite. It's PQC.

Abbie (3:40)

Yes, absolutely.

Tyrone (3:41)

It's definitely our favourite.

Abbie (3:42)

We're loving it. We've been loving everything that you've been putting off this album so far. But PQC, there's something magical about this song.
