Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Deep Dive. There is a lot of noise in crypto. Every single day, somebody tells you that their coin is trending, their community is exploding, or everybody is suddenly talking about the next big thing. But today, rather than listening to whoever is shouting the loudest, we're going to look at the data. Which cryptocurrencies are actually getting talked about the most right now? What are people saying about them? Why are some coins punching miles above their MarketCap ranking when it comes to social attention? And perhaps most importantly, does all of that chatter tell us anything useful about where money might move next? CoinMarketCap now has an entire social mentions section built around exactly this idea. CMC describes social sentiment as a signal for measuring how conversations, narratives and influencers are shaping market attention, and which cryptocurrencies are gaining or losing mindshare. And right now, this is particularly interesting because the crypto market itself is firmly back in a risk-on mood. At the time of recording, CoinMarketCap has the overall market at around $2.88 trillion, Bitcoin dominance at roughly 58.5% and fear and greed sitting at 72%.
Firmly in greed. Before we get into it, this is not financial advice. And a quick word about Kraken. Kraken is the exchange we use and trust ourselves. Now, when you crosscheck the social rankings, there is a very clear group at the top. Bitcoin is number one. Solana is number two. Ethereum number three. Pump.funds pump has climbed all the way into fourth. XRP is around fifth, followed by Hyperliquid. Then things get weird. USDC appears because of the sheer amount of stablecoin discussion, but mixed among the major cryptocurrencies are names including the Black Bull, Capcoin and CashCat. Zcash is also right up there, while Dogecoin, Chainlink, Cardano, Monad, Bitensor and Caspa feature further down the leading group. The particularly interesting thing is that Lunar Crush says this pattern has remained surprisingly stable throughout the week, with Solana consistently outpacing Ethereum for social mentions.
So, let's start with Bitcoin. Bitcoin being number one isn't exactly shocking. What is interesting is why people are talking about it. Bitcoin broke above $85,000 this week for the first time in around 8 months after a huge September recovery.
The conversation is therefore no longer dominated by people asking where the bottom is. It's shifted towards whether this breakout has legs, whether $90,000 comes next, and whether Bitcoin can finally begin another assault on six figures. And underneath that are some very real catalysts. The rally has coincided with strong ETF demand, improving liquidity, falling oil prices earlier in the week, and a massive short squeeze. Reports put crypto short liquidations during the move at around $650 million.
Interestingly, even as Bitcoin exploded higher, some crypto native traders remained positioned short. So, a lot of the social argument this week has effectively been bulls saying, the breakout is finally here. Against traders asking whether this is another liquidity-driven squeeze that fades once the forced buying disappears. But here's where things get much more interesting. Solana is beating Ethereum for social attention. Think about that. Ethereum is still comfortably larger by market cap, yet Solana has been number two for mentions on the social rankings, ahead of Ethereum. And that tells you where a lot of speculative attention currently lives. Solana has several narratives hitting simultaneously. There are ETF inflows. There has been a derivative squeeze. On-chain activity remains enormous. And this week, another statistic started spreading everywhere. Solana decentralized exchanges, led by Jupiter, reportedly processed around 208 million spot trades during one recent week. More individual trades than the New York Stock Exchange is roughly 190 million. You have to be careful comparing blockchain transactions with traditional exchange trades because they're not identical things. But as a social media headline, it is absolute rocket fuel.
Solana just did more trades than the NYSE. Ethereum sits in third, and its conversation is different. Ethereum has broken out technically after the enormous rally that began in late August. And traders have been watching the area around 2,600 to 2,700 dollars extremely closely.
Reuters technical analysis recently highlighted its break above a bull flag resistance level around 2,661 dollars, with higher technical targets if momentum continues. So Ethereum's social conversation is less about a shiny new meme narrative, and more about whether it has finally begun sustained outperformance again.
