Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Deep Dive. Today we're doing something slightly different on Crypto News Today, and if you enjoy this one, it's something we're going to start doing once every week. Rather than focusing on one cryptocurrency or one particular piece of news, we're going to take the temperature of the entire crypto market. We're looking at sentiment, fear and greed, Bitcoin dominance, the altcoin market, which cryptocurrencies people are actually searching for and looking at, where the biggest moves are happening, and ultimately trying to answer one simple question. What is the market telling us right now? Because price alone doesn't tell you that. Bitcoin can be completely flat, while enormous amounts of speculation are taking place underneath it. Equally, Bitcoin can be rising, while huge sections of the altcoin market are being quietly abandoned. Sometimes everybody says they're bullish, while positioning tells you something completely different. And sometimes, the coins attracting the most attention tell you more about the psychology of the market than Bitcoin's price does. So once a week, we're going to come back and compare these numbers and see whether the mood is getting hotter, colder, greedier or more cautious. Let's start with the big picture. At the time of recording, CoinMarketCap puts the total cryptocurrency market at roughly $2.93 trillion, with around $75 billion of trading volume over the previous 24 hours. Bitcoin is around the mid $86,000 area. Ethereum is just over $2,700.
BNB is around $785.
Solana around $120. And XRP approximately $1.51.
Those numbers by themselves aren't particularly explosive. What becomes much more interesting is what sits underneath them. CoinMarketCap's own Fear and Greed Index currently reads 68 out of 100 And it's worth explaining exactly what that means. Because Fear and Greed sometimes gets treated like a novelty indicator when it is actually attempting to combine several different parts of market behavior. CoinMarketCap calculates its version using price momentum across major cryptocurrencies. Expected volatility in Bitcoin and Ethereum. Positioning in the options market. Bitcoin's relative position against stablecoin liquidity. And CoinMarketCap's own data including search trends and user engagement. So when that number says 68, it isn't simply somebody looking at a chart and deciding everyone seems optimistic. It's trying to quantify whether traders are behaving like increasingly confident investors.
And right now the answer appears to be yes. But 68 is greed, not extreme greed. That's an important distinction. This doesn't look like the absolute mania phase where everyone has suddenly decided every token is going to 100 times. It looks more like confidence has returned. Traders are prepared to take additional risk, and money is beginning to explore further down the market cap rankings. And another number supports that idea. Bitcoin dominance currently sits at approximately 59.1% while Ethereum accounts for around 11.3% of the market. In simple terms, nearly $6 out of every $10 represented by the cryptocurrency market's total valuation are still attached to Bitcoin.
Normally, one of the things we would watch for in a genuine altcoin frenzy is Bitcoin dominance beginning to fall rapidly. Money makes money in Bitcoin, traders become more confident. Some of that capital moves into Ethereum and the larger altcoins, then eventually into increasingly speculative assets. We are seeing signs of that rotation, but we haven't reached the final stage yet. CoinMarketCap's altcoin season index is currently around 62 out of 100 That is significantly more interesting than simply saying Bitcoin is up or down. An index reading around 62 suggests plenty of major altcoins have begun outperforming Bitcoin, but we still haven't crossed into what would normally be considered a full-blown altcoin season. CoinMarketCap's conventional threshold is much higher, around 75
So this is probably best described as a market in transition.
Bitcoin remains dominant. Greed is present. But risk is starting to spread outward. And we can actually see that happening when we look at what people are paying attention to.
CoinMarketCap maintains a real-time list of its most viewed cryptocurrencies, which is potentially one of the most interesting sentiment indicators available, because it isn't asking people what they claim to like. It's simply measuring where they're actually looking.
At this snapshot, Bitcoin is number one and XRP is number two. That's not particularly surprising. But then things get interesting. Third is CashCat, ahead of Ethereum, which is fourth. Then comes Quant at number five, MarsCoin at six, Cardano at seven, Solana at eight, Nier at nine, and Zcash at ten.
Think about what that tells us. The obvious giants remain incredibly popular, but people's attention is spreading. And Quant is probably the standout example. QNT is currently around $254, but its 30-day performance on CoinMarketCap is roughly 285%.
That's an extraordinary move for something with a multi-billion dollar market cap, and unsurprisingly, people are looking at it. The challenge now is separating people discovering Quant because they believe in its longer-term institutional story from people discovering Quant because they've just seen a chart that's gone almost vertical. That's one of the recurring things we'll look for in these weekly episodes. Attention following price versus attention preceding price. Because they're completely different things. If something suddenly appears among CoinMarketCap's most viewed assets before a significant move, that's interesting. If it becomes one of the most viewed cryptocurrencies after going up 300%, that's potentially a warning that FOMO is arriving late. Nier is another interesting example. It's currently inside CoinMarketCap's 10 most viewed cryptocurrencies, and has gained roughly 119% over the last 30 days. Cardano is up around 26% over the same period, Solana around 13%, and SUI, sitting slightly further down the most viewed table, is up almost 50% over 30 days. This doesn't mean any of those assets automatically go higher. What it shows is that attention is no longer concentrated exclusively around Bitcoin. And then we get into today's movers. Filecoin and Layer Zero have been among the notable larger cap performers. CoinMarketCap data has shown Layer Zero producing a double-digit daily move. While Filecoin has also been one of the stronger coins as traders appear to rotate toward mid-cap altcoins. Layer Zero's move also comes alongside token buybacks and increased derivatives positioning. While Filecoin's move appears to have been driven much more heavily by the broader rotation into mid-sized altcoins. That distinction matters. If five completely unrelated altcoins all suddenly rise without individual pieces of news, the story isn't necessarily those five cryptocurrencies. The story is liquidity.
