Kyle Card, he's already served a pretty close game on the National League side as the Phillies blow lead in the eighth inning, give up a three-run home run, and lose game one on the road to Atlanta. Meanwhile, the White Sox have a three-nothing lead right now in their game.
Chris McMonigle (0:16)
Over the Astros.
Craig Carton (0:17)
Over the Houston Astros. What do you think is that giving, bud?
Chris McMonigle (0:20)
Top of the third.
Craig Carton (0:21)
All right, so plenty of baseball left there. Yeah. And then, of course, tonight, eight o'clock.
Chris McMonigle (0:24)
I want the Astros to win that series.
Craig Carton (0:25)
You've got yourselves the Yankees and the Red Sox as you're now making your way into the Bronx and down to Yankee Stadium. We'll take all your calls, 888-808-1019. And then coming up in a few minutes, you have the last stop of the Carton Show exclusively with Big Mac up until the Yankee pregame.
Finally made it, Biggs.
Chris McMonigle (0:45)
We made it.
Craig Carton (0:46)
Predictions coming up shortly. Predictions.
Chris McMonigle (0:48)
Coming up shortly.
Craig Carton (0:49)
You're going to make me predict this series? How did you do last night on the Bears-Eagles game?
Chris McMonigle (0:53)
I was so tempted to take the Bears, but I took the Eagles.
Craig Carton (0:56)
Who did Pete take last night? We all took the Eagles. Everybody took Philadelphia.
Chris McMonigle (1:00)
At least two things I did that I feel one really good about and one bad about. One, I referenced it as Thursday Night Football and said on a short week twice, so I feel good about that, considering it was Monday Night Football and it was a long week, so I feel good about that. And then the other thing is, I made it very clear that I hated saying it.
Craig Carton (1:20)
So people shouldn't follow your picks.
Chris McMonigle (1:22)
I called Monday Night Football Thursday Night Football and referenced twice on short weeks, the home team tends to do better. I mean, that's okay, though.
Craig Carton (1:29)
That's a simple mistake.
Chris McMonigle (1:31)
So I was singing the praises of the Bears and I thought Case Keenan would do well, but I thought the Eagles would have to have a good performance.
Craig Carton (1:37)
That would have been a tough pick, by the way. Yeah, I thought the three and a half day would be a good take. Because Case Keenan hadn't started in two and a half years. No, I know.
Chris McMonigle (1:44)
But Hoff was like, oh, I would take it if it was eight and a half.
Craig Carton (1:46)
Yeah. Well, let's get back to the topic at hand and the only game that matters tonight.
Chris McMonigle (1:50)
The only game that matters.
Craig Carton (1:51)
And that's the New York Yankees, of course, and the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are in the field right now. Taking in field practice at loose turning up, a little long toss in the outfield.
Chris McMonigle (2:01)
And they look awful. I gotta be honest.
Craig Carton (2:02)
Terrible team. I mean, they look terrible team.
Chris McMonigle (2:04)
They could barely field it. It's embarrassing, quite honestly.
Craig Carton (2:08)
I don't know.
SPEAKER_3 (2:09)
I wish I could think right there.
Chris McMonigle (2:11)
I mean, I'm not sure IKF was even on second base turning that double play, quite frankly.
Craig Carton (2:16)
Here's Bill in New York on the fan. Bill, what do you got, kiddo?
SPEAKER_3 (2:22)
Boys pumped for the game, very pumped bringing the boys to football practice. Craigie, just a little disappointed in you. Why?
I didn't hear the pastor come out this year and start the church and I was a little disappointed. I thought we would start getting this church going.
Craig Carton (2:42)
Ladies and gentlemen, because I am nothing more than a jukebox, apparently, to our listeners.
I present to you Mets fans for Yankees. There you go. The church is back open, everybody.
Chris McMonigle (3:03)
Nobody wants to see the Red Sox.
Craig Carton (3:04)
If you're a long-suffering Mets fan, pissed off at, by the way, the worst quote I've ever heard from a general manager after a losing season is, and I'm paraphrasing here, we allowed for an uncapped amount of losing.
Chris McMonigle (3:19)
Yes, pretty much.
SPEAKER_3 (3:20)
What?
Chris McMonigle (3:21)
We built the roster in a way where if things went poorly, we had no way to stop it.
SPEAKER_3 (3:26)
That's right.
Chris McMonigle (3:28)
It was just, if it went down an inch, we had no way to stop it from rolling a mile.
