All right, 423 on The Carton Show. As we are here today in the aftermath of the Yankee season, Craig's working on another, you know, reggae hip hop song to mock me.
Craig Carton (0:14)
He'll be right back. I went upstairs to check my ice cream freezer. All my Ralph's Italian ice is gone.
And I got a Jones for the ice cream right now.
Chris McMonigle (0:23)
I saw Eddie Scazzeri walking out with a bunch of frozen ice cream.
Craig Carton (0:26)
That's who took it? Yeah, damn it. Yeah, he's on his way to Chicago. Boomer gets to the National Radio Hall of Fame tonight in Chicago.
I, being a good employee and a guy who understands where he should be in moments like this, had to bail on that Hall of Fame ceremony so I could be here with you to do the show. That's my job. But obviously proud of him. Glad I could be the most important part of that, obviously. And I'm sure it'll be a great night for those guys as they go out to Chicago and come back tonight and do their show tomorrow morning.
Chris McMonigle (1:00)
Yes.
Craig Carton (1:01)
Yeah, I'm sure Al's miserable about it, but that's the way he goes. He's actually introduced him to.
Chris McMonigle (1:06)
And he's introducing him.
Craig Carton (1:07)
Yeah, I'm in his speech, though.
Chris McMonigle (1:09)
That's all I'm very proud of. He mentioned you in the speech.
Craig Carton (1:11)
How could you not?
Chris McMonigle (1:12)
Well, I mean, he can mention the show.
Craig Carton (1:13)
No Craig, no Hall of Fame.
Chris McMonigle (1:15)
He puts it like that?
Craig Carton (1:16)
I think that's what Al said. That's what he told me, at least.
Chris McMonigle (1:20)
He might have just been saying that to make me feel better. Yeah, I don't think so.
Craig Carton (1:22)
Because I was upset that I'm not going. Because I wanted to be there for my main man, but it's more important that I do my job. That's what they paid me to do.
Chris McMonigle (1:30)
I understand.
Craig Carton (1:30)
And after Yankees get eliminated, you got to work, that's all.
Chris McMonigle (1:34)
You got to work Yankee elimination day.
Craig Carton (1:35)
Yes, so there you have it. So I didn't get to enjoy seeing Mark Chernoff or Joel Hollander or Boomer or Al Jarrionetti as well. Because most of them had jobs because of me. So the fact that they're all together without me makes me feel a bit of an outsider these days.
Chris McMonigle (1:52)
Yeah, but they do that every morning without you.
Craig Carton (1:54)
Yeah, they do, don't they? It seems like they've figured it out.
Chris McMonigle (1:57)
Well, I don't know.
Craig Carton (1:58)
Damn it, Evan figured it out. One day you will too.
Chris McMonigle (2:01)
We can only hope.
Craig Carton (2:03)
Why would you say that? That's mean.
Chris McMonigle (2:05)
Why was that mean?
Craig Carton (2:06)
It's like you're rooting for me to leave so you can just carry on without me.
Chris McMonigle (2:08)
No, I'm hoping I carry on without you. You said you're not going to be around forever. I intend to work for a while.
Craig Carton (2:13)
I'm not one of these guys that's going to die behind the microphone. I have no interest in that.
Chris McMonigle (2:16)
There you go.
Craig Carton (2:16)
None whatsoever. But I told you I'd give you at least a couple of good months of my life. And that's exactly what I'm trying to do.
Chris McMonigle (2:24)
We're going down a familiar path, I remember.
SPEAKER_3 (2:25)
What's the familiar path?
Craig Carton (2:27)
I get another job. It's early in the morning.
SPEAKER_3 (2:28)
That job becomes important.
Chris McMonigle (2:30)
You're waking up.
Craig Carton (2:31)
That job offers me more money. That job says, hey, if we give you an X, would you leave Y?
SPEAKER_3 (2:37)
I say yes.
Chris McMonigle (2:38)
I remember that.
Craig Carton (2:39)
And then they shock me and say yes.
Chris McMonigle (2:41)
Then you're cleaning out the office and you're like, hey, don't read into this.
Craig Carton (2:45)
Tell people a quick story, that happened.
Chris McMonigle (2:47)
Yeah, no, I came back in the Carton and Roberts days. I walked back into, back when we had offices, before they were doing all this construction, and you had a big office, a bunch of framed pictures, all that. I walk into the office, it's a couple hours before the show, and there you are with boxes and boxing everything up. And I'm like, what's going on? You're like, I know what you're thinking.
