Craig Almost Housed An NYC Athlete & Yankees' Urgency

The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

August 6, 2026

Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle discuss what George Lombard Jr. is doing on his off day, the time that an NYC athlete almost lived with Craig (it didn't work out), and whether or not there's a problem with the Yankees' level of urgency with regard to winning a World Series.
Speakers: Craig Carton, Chris McMonigle

Topics: Sports

**Craig Carton** (0:00)
What do you think George Lombard does today, off day, as a Yankee for two games? Think he's at the stadium taking ground balls?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:07)
Goes through his social media, makes sure everything's all locked up.

**Craig Carton** (0:10)
Make sure he's following the mayor?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:14)
Yeah, I think he's probably taking just a mental break day, because there's a lot of pressure, and you just need a little breather.

**Craig Carton** (0:22)
When you get called up, and you get the contract at the big league level, right? Do they provide housing for you?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:31)
That is a good question.

**Craig Carton** (0:32)
Because it's a homestay. I thought you joined them on the road.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:34)
Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (0:34)
So you're in the road hotel team.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:36)
Yeah, I'm sure they give you a hotel room, yeah.

**Craig Carton** (0:38)
Well, I wonder what, like, Four Seasons kind of stuff?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:42)
Yeah, I would think.

**Craig Carton** (0:43)
You think it's like they've got, like, a corporate rate at the local Hilton? Yeah, something like that. You do think that?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:49)
I think it's very nice, yeah.

**Craig Carton** (0:50)
Well, which is it? It can't be both. Like, either is George Lombard at the Rich Carlton right now in Battery Park?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:56)
I don't know about the Rich Carlton.

**Craig Carton** (0:57)
Or is he at, like, a Motel 6 in the Bronx?

**Chris McMonigle** (1:00)
No, he's closer to the Ritz than he is Motel 6, but I think it's a very nice hotel. That would be very expensive.

**Craig Carton** (1:07)
You think other guys are staying there, too?
Or just like, hey, we have a hotel deal. You're staying here tonight. You're at the Sheridan. Kind of, kind of. And you think he's in the Bronx or you think he's in Manhattan?

**Chris McMonigle** (1:16)
No, I would think he's...

**Craig Carton** (1:18)
Right?

**Chris McMonigle** (1:19)
He might not be in either. I don't know. I would guess Manhattan, but he could be on the outskirts of...

**Craig Carton** (1:24)
You think the Aggies have, like an ombudsman who's like any... Like an advisor, like a team uncle, for lack of a better description. And you're like, look, new kid comes up, you're staying at Johnny's house tonight. And Johnny's like, yeah, you're a trader or an assistant or whatever.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:41)
Yeah, I think there's a chance he's staying with someone on the team, but I think they probably put him up at a hotel. I think it's a very nice hotel.
I don't know how...

**Craig Carton** (1:48)
You think it's a hotel, not like an employee's...

**Chris McMonigle** (1:51)
Correct.

**Craig Carton** (1:52)
Like couch.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:52)
No. Or he's got an extra bedroom kind of thing. Well, I mean, Boomer's family loves taking in players. Maybe he's hanging out at Boomer's house.

**Craig Carton** (1:59)
Probably not. Probably not.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:00)
Probably not.

**Craig Carton** (2:00)
Because he's not a hockey player. He cares about hockey players. And he likes memdonis, though. You know he's not saving Boomer's point. That's a good point. No, no, right there.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:07)
That's a good point. Kick him right out. Yeah. There's a chance he's at someone's house. If they have a house around here, maybe someone's doing them a favor. But my guess is the Yankees are putting him in a hotel.

**Craig Carton** (2:18)
You gotta guess, what Yankee veteran would say to George Lombard, hey, Rook, you're staying with me until you find a place to live. The rest of this season, you're moving in with my family.
Who would be the most likely Yankee veteran to offer that? I think Bellinger.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:34)
I think Judge or Bellinger.

**Craig Carton** (2:36)
I don't think Judge is that guy at all.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:38)
I think Judge is definitely that guy. I do not. Judge is one of the great teammates. Is he? Everyone loves Judge.

**Craig Carton** (2:43)
They love him because he's great at baseball.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:44)
No, listen to all the stories about, I forget the name of the pitcher. Rookie pitcher got called up having dinner with his family. Judge saw him.

**Craig Carton** (2:51)
Yeah.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:52)
Took care of the whole thing.

**Craig Carton** (2:53)
Okay, I appreciate that. You think he's having George Lombard stay at the crib though?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:58)
That I don't know. Married, young baby, maybe not.

**Craig Carton** (3:01)
Probably not, right? Who else do you think?

**Chris McMonigle** (3:04)
A couple dogs.

**Craig Carton** (3:05)
You think Bellinger might be that guy?
