This week on the Commander Clash Podcast, we're talking about the biggest traps in Commander deck building.

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the Commander Clash Podcast, where the Commander Crash crew talks all things Commander. And this week, we're talking about the biggest traps and the biggest mistakes that you can make in building Commander decks. And joining me for this, we got the full crew, Cram, and Tomer, and Phil. What's up, guys? How's it going this week?

Phil (0:33)

Hi-yo.

Tomer (0:35)

Good.

Crim (0:36)

Play more lands.

Tomer (0:37)

Play more lands. We have to get out of the way at the beginning.

Phil (0:40)

OK.

Seth (0:42)

We say it now, and then we won't have to say it ever again.

Phil (0:44)

That's the easy one. I feel you.

Crim (0:46)

Yet it's not.

Seth (0:47)

That advice never gets old, though.

Phil (0:49)

It is kind of a talking point, though. Whatever. We'll get into it.

Seth (0:53)

We will get into it. But that's our plan for today. We're going to have a conversation about mistakes and traps and commander deck building, how we build our decks, how you can improve your decks. But before we get into all that, we got some sponsors today. Today's show is brought to you by Foil Armor. Do you have problems with your foils, girlie? Well, Foil Armor is the ultimate solution for flattening your foils. It's a two-way humidity pack that you simply put inside an airtight container with your cards, and Foil Armor will absorb and release moisture, making your cards completely flat. Put it back in your storage box to keep your cards flat forever, and head over to foilarmor.com and use the code MTGGoldfish to get 15% off. Today's show is also brought to you by Card Conduit, the easiest way to sell your magic cards. If you ever get tired of the hassles of by listing, you can skip them with Card Conduit. You can use their curated service where you're sending as many cards as you want with a bylist value of a dollar or more and pay just a 5% service fee. And if you want to do a bit of work, you can use the sorted service where you list and sort your cards in advance and pay just a 2% fee.

Either way, you're going to get a detailed report with the results in a fast payment once your order is processed. And you can even get another 10% off by heading over to cardconduit.com MTGGoldfish. Card Conduit, it's the easiest way to sell your magic cards. So thank you to our sponsors for supporting this show.

And now it's time for the comment of the week. So we recently discussed the most annoying commanders in the format. And our top comment comes from ToTikiSlider3835, who says, Tomer Regan Krim for Deadpool will never get old and well-deserved.

Phil (2:25)

Wow!

Save some shots fired at Krim. Wow! Hello? Thank you, comment section.

Tomer (2:31)

Appreciate you.

Seth (2:33)

It turns out we aren't the only ones who hate Deadpool, apparently.

Crim (2:36)

I don't understand how people hate Deadpool.

Tomer (2:40)

I can list some reasons. Let's watch that video.

Crim (2:43)

Okay. If you can name more than 50 reasons right now off the top of your head in two seconds, I believe you.

Phil (2:49)

It's a little too off topic. It's too off topic.

Crim (2:51)

We'll get back to it another time.

Seth (2:53)

Let's talk about the biggest traps in Commander Deck building and is putting Deadpool in your deck one of those traps, Tomer?

Phil (2:59)

Number one trap. Number one trap. Not having it is a trap. It is a bad deck building.

Seth (3:05)

But really, though, I'm curious as we get into this, like, what are some of the big traps in Commander Deck building? Like, Tomer, you mentioned one in the intro, which we might as well get out of the way super quick here, which is just not playing enough lands. And this is something we have harped on forever now, like literally a decade now.

And we still get viewer decks and we still see decks on the Internet. And there's still this trend or temptation to just cheat on lands. And I get it, right? Like, lands are boring. People, like, want to play more cool cards. So next thing you know, you're at 37, then 36 And eventually you're the 32-land Erdragon player and then getting made fun of on the podcast. That is the pathway people go down. But that is still a big issue, Tomer. Like, you've been talking about it for a decade. Do you think it's better now? Like, has this seeped into the consciousness of the commander community and all that really got to be playing more lands? Or is it still an issue today?
