DNVR Broncos Post Game Show, as Sam Ehlinger takes a knee to put a cap on the Broncos' second blowout win of the preseason. Sam Ehlinger finishes the game 15 and 20 for 233 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
**Bennie Fowler** (0:17)
He went crazy.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (0:19)
He went crazy, but he's not, I don't know. Is he the player of the game? Because Cody Schrader, six catches, 90 yards and a touchdown by a running back. Not to mention 13 carries for 42 yards. That adds up to 132 all-purpose yards for Cody Schrader.
In what was kind of a fun preseason game number three, I got to give the Broncos credit. They entertained me all night.
**Bennie Fowler** (0:47)
Do you think it's better to have a preseason game where the starters don't play so you could just watch that type of performance where you weren't expecting things, and there are no real expectations?
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (0:58)
Sometimes. I think I'm glad that I got to see Bo Nix complete a pass to Jalen Watto last week. Other than that, it was nice to just watch a stress-free game.
I probably wouldn't feel that way if the Broncos didn't score 34 points though. That keeps you intrigued, keeps you interested.
**Bennie Fowler** (1:16)
Yeah.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (1:18)
Let's go biggest takeaways, boys.
Benny, I'll start with you. What did you take away from this game?
**Bennie Fowler** (1:23)
Yeah, Cody Schrader went crazy. I mean, that would be, is that my biggest takeaway? I mean, he's obviously, I think he's the player of the game. I don't know if that's my biggest takeaway. I would say biggest takeaway.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (1:40)
Hank, you can go if you're ready.
**Henry Chisholm** (1:41)
Yeah.
**Bennie Fowler** (1:42)
I don't know.
**Henry Chisholm** (1:44)
Sam Ehlinger is good.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (1:46)
Well, okay.
**Henry Chisholm** (1:47)
I'm not even strong enough to say.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (1:49)
My biggest takeaway, I'll go.
**Henry Chisholm** (1:51)
Yeah.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (1:52)
Was that I'll say I'm Ehlinger and apology.
**Henry Chisholm** (1:54)
That is there we go.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (1:56)
I had ruled him out of the QB to competition. I had declared it never a competition really at all. Right. And he changed my opinion tonight. Now he was certainly aided by some questionable coverage in the back end of the Vikings defense. Yeah, obviously an 88 yard touchdown to Justin Jolie happens because they're just not paying attention in the back end. And the last touchdown or the previous touchdown to Cody Schrader, he was also completely wide open in the end zone. So there was help there, but I even just felt like on down to down basis, he did a good job of staying in the pocket. He delivered some great passes. The one up the sideline to Dane Key was probably the best of the night.
He proved me wrong. He impressed me tonight and made me wonder if it's worth saving $5 million to make him the backup Q.
**Henry Chisholm** (2:52)
It makes you wonder.
I try not to overreact to anything that happened in the preseason. It's a real test when none of the starters play. And so does any of it really matter? A couple hours ago, we all were like, I don't know, like, we'll watch the game. It happens, whatever. But now you see that happen. You're like, well, Sam look good. You got to keep Sam around. It seems like he's growing even if he's a quarterback three.
So I'm just really torn. There's a lot of just mixed feelings about preseason games. Like, it's just tough to be so. But he played really well and he made the throws that were there. He took advantage when the defense fell apart. And so credit to him.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (3:37)
I was going to save this maybe for the second segment, but I think we should just open up this can of worms right now. Sorry, I'm blanking. Jarrett Stidham looked way worse this preseason than he did last preseason.
**Henry Chisholm** (3:52)
Yep. The first preseason game was good.
**Bennie Fowler** (3:54)
Yeah, first preseason game was good. He didn't look bad tonight.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (3:58)
He didn't look bad. I didn't say that. I just, he looked a lot better in the last preseason.
**Henry Chisholm** (4:04)
He was like the best quarterback in the preseason, statistically last year. Which was going to be tough to back up.
**Ryan Koenigsberg** (4:10)
I just, I don't know. I wonder if there was a hangover effect from that AFC Championship game.
**Bennie Fowler** (4:17)
Maybe a little bit, but he, I mean, not really, I mean, because he came out against Atlanta, he was slinging the pill.
