Ah, but the backhand for Mirra Andreeva goes into the net. It's 40-15. Two match points for Coco Gauff to continue her winning streak. Six matches in Cincinnati, four in New York, but she's threatening to make it five. An 11-match winning streak. Let's see. Yeah, Talking Tennis is Gavin McWilliams, yeah. Right, Coco to serve. Just misses that first serve. Just. Second serve for Coco Gauff here.

Two match points.

So I've done the T, backhand return, forehand to forehand right now. Backhand from Mirra Andreeva into the backhand of Coco. It's a really good forehand for Mirra Andreeva. Is she gonna put this away at the net? She is. 40-30.

First serve lands in, backhand return. Drop shot from Coco. She thought about running that down, didn't. Drive volley here from Mirra Andreeva. The rally continues. Forehand from Mirra, into the forehand of Coco. Looped up, really good depth there from Coco. Another sort of drop shot, but that's not good enough from Coco. Mirra comes into the net, picks up the half volley, but misses. And Coco Gauff drops her racket, bends down and screams before approaching her opponent of the net, Mirra Andreeva, who had two match points in the second set tie break. Couldn't take them. And then all the momentum then with Coco Gauff in the third set. Who is the last women singles player to save a match point en route to the title? I'm thinking Naomi Osaka in Australia.

2021, but I could be wrong on that one. Did Klajikov save a match point en route to the French Open the same year? Maybe. Either way, Coco Gauff is through the semifinals where New World No. 1, Elena Rybakina will lie in wait. Mirra looks thoroughly dejected as she walks down the tunnel. The forehand just went awry, didn't it, in that third set. But maybe it was physical, maybe it was mental, or maybe it was both.

Great heart from Coco indeed. Better key to come back from those two match points. And a really poor first set from Coco too, lest we forget. But Coco dug deep and Coco is the winner. Let's have a quick look at some of the stats available from this particular encounter.

12 double faults for Coco Gauff. That didn't help her today for sure. The double fault yips or whatever it is did sort of kind of return. And she only got 59% of her first serves in. So a lot to work on. Okay, she's going to talk to Chris Eubanks right now. Coco the winner.

Listen to that crowd.

Chris Eubanks (5:08)

Well, you know how to thrill Arthur Ashe Stadium, and you gave us another example of it today.

First set, it was a little bit scratchy by your standards, and you continued to fight, and you never gave up. What was the key, besides the mental effort, what was the key to being able to turn this match around?

Coco Gauff (5:34)

I think I just had to reset. I mean, I came out not feeling the pull, giving her too many free points, and you know, Mirra was playing a great level, but I think in the restroom, honestly, I'll be honest, I was thinking about Frances Tiafoe and how he came back yesterday, so. And we all want to do well in front of this crowd, so honestly, I was just trying to literally leave the court with no regrets. I didn't know how the outcome would come, but really, really, really thank you to you guys. You really helped me pull this one through.
