Mark (0:03)
Join us for a virtual tour across Europe, 2026 edition, episode 1 Hola a todos, yo soy Mark.
Anabel (0:18)
Y yo soy Anabel.
Mark (0:20)
Qué tal, Anabel?
Anabel (0:20)
Mark (0:24)
Otra vez para otra temporada, otro episodio.
Anabel (0:28)
Eso es otra caza del tesoro.
Mark (0:30)
Sí, we're back with another treasure hunt across Europe, where we're going to be following clues that the Coffee Break team has left for us as we travel from city to city based on those clues. And I am delighted to be back here for another season of this, Anabel.
Anabel (0:45)
That's great. So this year, the clues are very interesting, and we are going to learn lots of Spanish, and it's going to be fun.
Mark (0:53)
Eso sí que es importante que las pistas, the clues, the word for clues, pista, que las pistas sean en español.
Anabel (1:01)
Pues sí, empezamos, no?
Mark (1:02)
Empezamos.
Anabel (1:04)
Mark (1:37)
Mmm, muy interesante, muy interesante.
Anabel (1:41)
Yeah, they're like, you know, some clues.
Mark (1:43)
Clues in there, yeah, okay. So what we'll do now is go back through the clue and work through the vocabulary. We'll not reveal where this location is because that's your job, and I'll explain more about that in just a moment, but we'll go through the clues, making sure we understand everything and checking some interesting words. Okay, so to begin with, duerme un gigante con fuego interno. So duerme un gigante. This is kind of swapped around, of our jargon, isn't it? So it's un gigante duerme, a giant is sleeping, con fuego interno. So with an internal fire.
Anabel (2:20)
Mark (2:23)
So bella is the word for watching over.
This giant is watching over la bahía, the bay, y el mar tan sereno, and the most serene sea. Okay, okay.
Anabel (2:38)
Mark (2:42)
So masa is dough, y tomate and tomato.
Anabel (2:48)
Masa y tomate, dough and tomato.
Mark (2:51)
Comenzó la historia. So the story or the history began with dough and tomato. Okay.
Anabel (3:00)
A dish that has that, maybe.
Mark (3:03)
Yeah, okay.
Anabel (3:04)
Un sabor sencillo que alcanzó la gloria.
Mark (3:08)
So un sabor is a taste, sencillo, simple. So a simple taste, que alcanzó la gloria. So alcanzar is when you reach for something.
Anabel (3:20)
Yeah.
Mark (3:21)
So it reached glory.
Anabel (3:23)
It became famous, kind of.
Mark (3:24)
It became famous. Right. So this is dough and tomato became famous. I think I know what we're talking about here.
Okay, let's continue.
Anabel (3:34)
Un ídolo de azul con el número 10
Mark (3:37)
So, azul is blue. Un ídolo, some kind of idol.
Anabel (3:41)
Ajá, de azul means that that idol is wearing blue.
Mark (3:46)
Right, as opposed to being blue coloured, okay. Con el número 10, with the number 10
Anabel (3:52)
Ajá, so an idol wearing blue and wearing number 10
Mark (3:56)
Yeah.
Anabel (3:57)
Mark (4:00)
So, he's watching us or she is watching us, we don't know.
Anabel (4:04)
Claro.
Mark (4:05)
Nos mira, they are watching us en los muros, in the walls, una y otra vez, once and once again.
Anabel (4:13)
Eso es.
Mark (4:13)
So, time and time again, they're watching us. So, perhaps they're more than one of these idols, or is it just the one?
Anabel (4:20)
Or maybe, yeah, we don't know. I mean, we do, but. That's how you do it.
Mark (4:26)
Okay.
Anabel (4:27)
And then we have, limones dorados, café bien cargado.
Mark (4:32)
So, these are golden lemons, and café bien cargado. So, that's well-loaded coffee.
Anabel (4:39)
Basically, strong coffee, I would imagine, yeah.
Mark (4:46)
So, motos are like motorbikes or mopeds. Y coplas, is that like a song?
Anabel (4:52)
It is, yes.
Mark (4:53)
Yeah, una copla por todo el condado. El condado, is that like an older word for a town?
Anabel (4:58)
Yeah, it's a county.
Mark (4:59)
A county. Oh, okay, okay. Of course.
