Germany annexed West Poland on this date in 1939, and in 1944, Ozzie and Harriet debuted on the radio.
SPEAKER_7 (1:49)
Look at this, Pop.
SPEAKER_6 (1:50)
Yeah, that looks swell.
SPEAKER_7 (1:52)
I bet you I hit plenty of home runs with this good old bat.
SPEAKER_8 (1:55)
Go on, you can't even lift it.
SPEAKER_7 (1:57)
That was last year.
SPEAKER_9 (1:58)
I've grown some new muscles since then.
SPEAKER_7 (2:01)
Where are you hiding them?
SPEAKER_8 (2:02)
Never mind, boy.
Let's take a look at this swing. Hey, be careful there. You almost hit your father with that bat. Oh, that's okay. It won't break.
Wyatt Cox (2:15)
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet are debuting on this date back in 1944 First couple of years, it was just, it was actors portraying the two Nelson children until they got old enough to do it themselves.
1956, Don Larson pitched the only perfect game in a World Series to date, helping the New York Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 2-0 in Game 5
SPEAKER_10 (2:41)
Larson is ready. Gets the sign.
SPEAKER_11 (2:44)
Two strikes, ball one, here comes the pitch. Strike three. A null hair of perfect game for Don Larson.
Wyatt Cox (2:51)
Mel Allen with the call. The Yankees would go on to win the series in Game 7 back in 1956 One year later to the date, Walter O'Malley announced the Dodgers would be moving on.
From Brooklyn, New York to Los Angeles.
SPEAKER_12 (3:11)
What do you think of the idea of the Dodgers moving to Los Angeles?
SPEAKER_13 (3:14)
I don't like the idea.
SPEAKER_14 (3:16)
How about the Dodgers moving to Queens?
SPEAKER_15 (3:18)
I don't like that idea either.
SPEAKER_13 (3:20)
Well, where would you rather see them if you had to choose between the two?
SPEAKER_16 (3:23)
I'd rather see them right here in Brooklyn.
SPEAKER_17 (3:25)
There were no more Dodgers, there was no more nothing. People tried to explain business, this, that and the other. When you're eight years old, you don't give a damn about business, you give a damn about where's Duke?
Where's Carl Erskine?
Wyatt Cox (3:39)
Where's Carl Ferrello?
SPEAKER_17 (3:43)
Where's Gil Hodges?
And Los Angeles might as well have been Saturn. It was so far away.
SPEAKER_1 (3:52)
They left us, they left us.
Wyatt Cox (3:55)
There's a bitterness that's never going to leave us. Fans were not happy about the Dodgers moving on this, dated 1957 In 1970, a communist delegation rejected President Nixon's peace proposals on October 7th, as a maneuver to deceive world opinion. In 1973, Gabi Amir's Armored Brigade attacked Egyptian-occupied positions on the Israeli side of the Suez Canal, in hopes of driving them away. The attack failed. Over 150 Israeli tanks were destroyed. Franklin National Bank collapsed on this date in 1974 due to fraud and mismanagement at the time. It was the largest bank failure in the history of the US. A packed house at Madison Square Garden on this date in 1974 heard Frank Sinatra being Sinatra.
The Televised Concert later released as an album under the title The Main Event Live backing him, bandleader Woody Herman and the Young Thundering Herd who accompanied Sinatra on a European tour later that month.
On this date also in 1974 in a speech to Congress, President Ford urged Americans to join him in an effort to whip inflation now.

A very simple enlistment form will appear in many of tomorrow's newspapers along with a symbol of this new mobilization. It bears the single word WIN.
