Adolf Hitler on this date back in 1939 In 1949, US-born journalist Aiba Toguri de Aquino sentenced to 10 years in prison for treason as her role as a Japanese wartime broadcaster, Tokyo Rose.
She would be released 6 years later and eventually pardoned because a lot of the information that linked her directly to being Tokyo Rose was forged and was not accurate. So sadly, here's a case of somebody else being convicted because of who she was, not of what she did. Everyone was watching the parade, it was going along beautifully. President Sadat seemed in an upbeat mood. When suddenly shots were fired by what appeared to me to be young soldiers from an anti-tank unit that was mobile and was passing his reviewing stand.
It took a few seconds for those of us around the area to realize that this was not part of the display, it was for real. And the shots were being aimed directly at President Sadat, Vice President Mubarak next to him, and Defense Minister Abu Ghazala on the other side.
