By the end of 1847, only 15 law schools even existed in the US. In 1907, Sir Robert Baden Powell set up the Brownsea Island Scout Camp in Pool Harbor on the south coast of England. The International Atomic Energy Agency established on this date in 1957, and in 1958, President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act into law, which created NASA. The first Congress elections in Hawaii were on this date in 1959, as Hawaii became a state of the union. In 1965, the first 4,101st Airborne Division paratroopers arrived in Vietnam. In 1967, fire and explosions killed 134 servicemen when a rocket accidentally launched aboard the USS Forrestal in the Gulf of Tonkin. Here's a portion of a Navy training video on the incident.

Somehow a Zuni rocket has been triggered, roaring across the flight deck and hitting an A4 Skyhawk. Flame from the A4's ruptured fuel tank has enveloped the Skyhawk and her immediate neighbors.

In New York City on this date in 1976, the son of Sam killed one person and seriously wounded another in the first of a series of attacks. The marriage of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer on this date in 1981

The divorce finalized in August of 1996 We know what happened. Lady Diana was killed in a car crash and Prince Charles is now King Charles. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President of France, Francois Mitterrand, signed the agreement to build the tunnel under the English Channel on this date in 1987
It would become the Euro tunnel.

United Kingdom and France have decided today on the basis of reports by experts to link their two countries by a twin bore tunnel under the channel for rail traffic and motor vehicle shuttle trains. Later, a drive-through link should be built.

The tunnel opened in 1994 at a cost of nearly 10 billion pounds. Israeli Supreme Court acquitted Nazi death camp guard John Dumanjanjuk of all charges on this date in 1993, and he was set free. The controversial child protection portion of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 struck down that year as too broad by a US federal court.
A stock day trader went on a shooting spree at two trading offices in Atlanta on this date in 1999, killing nine people and wounding 13 others. Gunman Mark Barton also found to have killed his wife and two children. He later took his own life after being cornered by police. Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell said Barton reportedly upset over setbacks in the stock market.
