Also on this date in 1940, Billboard magazine published its first singles chart for the week of July 20th. The number one song belonged to... Tommy Dorsey's Band.
The Dorsey Band with the number one song on this date in 1940, with the vocals by the Pied Pipers and a Young Boys Singer. You might have heard of him, his name was Sinatra. An armistice signed on this date in 1953, ending the Korean War.

Terror struck the Atlanta Olympics on this date in 1996 when a homemade pipe bomb went off in a park where thousands watched a rock concert. One person killed, more than 100 injured. This man was there when the explosion went off.

From the motion picture, the big broadcast of 1938, Bob Hope and Shirley Ross played a divorced couple who sang the song in the movie. And that was Ross along with Hope. The song would be associated with Bob Hope for the rest of his life and beyond. After an incident during a space shuttle mission on this date in 2005, NASA grounded the space shuttle pending an investigation of the continuing problem with the shedding of foam insulation from the external fuel tank. Board of the Boy Scouts of America voted on this date in 2015 to allow openly gay leaders into the organization.
