CIA Used Psychics To See The Future: The Secret Remote Viewing Program That Sent Psychic Spies on 500 Classified Missions, Plus Signs That You Might Have These Abilities | Dr. Edwin C. May
Mayim Bialik's Breakdown
October 2, 2026
Dr. Edwin C. May (physicist, former director of the U.S. Government's infamous Star Gate remote viewing program, and one of the world's leading researchers into extrasensory perception) reveals what decades of classified research actually uncovered about psychic phenomena.

The brain has more than five senses. We all use remote viewing whether you heard of it.
Mayim Bialik (0:05)
Explain for us what Star Gate is.
Edwin C. May (0:08)
From 1975 for the next 20 years, the intelligence community tasked us with over 500 separate missions to collect intelligence. A Russian said he knows how telepathy works. That frightened the West.
Jonathan Cohen (0:23)
What was your role in the program?
Edwin C. May (0:25)
Figure out how it works. There's only one form of using ESP to gather information, and that's called precognition.
Mayim Bialik (0:32)
Physicist Dr. Edwin C. May is one of the foremost authorities on parapsychology, remote viewing, and the expansion of human capability.
Edwin C. May (0:41)
Those 500 missions were spread across 19 federal agencies like NSA, CIA, State Department.
Jonathan Cohen (0:49)
It was kept secret?
Edwin C. May (0:50)
Totally. China, Cuba, are they posing a threat? People tumbling under the North Korean-South Korean border. We are tasked, can we figure out which tunnels we should go look at?
Mayim Bialik (1:01)
What is your understanding as a scientist?
Edwin C. May (1:03)
Telepathy scares people. It's considered bizarre and crazy. Absolutely no doubt in my mind that a certain aspect of this is totally real. I have to tell you something that you won't believe.
Mayim Bialik (1:22)
Hi, I'm Mayim Bialik.
Jonathan Cohen (1:23)
And I'm Jonathan Cohen.
Mayim Bialik (1:24)
And welcome to our breakdown. Whether you're a skeptic, a true believer, or maybe you're curious about one of the most controversial subjects in science, this episode is going to challenge all assumptions you have and leave you questioning what is really possible in this reality as well as the future. Today we're speaking to Dr. Edwin C. May. He was interested in sci-phenomenon before anyone was talking about it. And he joined the ongoing US government sponsored work at what was formerly the Stanford Research Institute and then became the Star Gate program.
Dr. May is one of the foremost authorities not only on remote viewing, but on the feasibility of human capability. He has managed complex interdisciplinary research projects for the federal government and has accumulated dozens of years of research into understanding the phenomena of remote viewing as well as its limitations.
Jonathan Cohen (2:25)
Ed is going to talk to us about how remote viewing was used across all agencies of the government from CIA to FBI, DEA, NASA, and so many more agencies continue to come back to that team because of their success.
Mayim Bialik (2:41)
He's done hundreds of studies and published hundreds of reports exploring what are the best ways to access the skills of those who seem to be intuitively gifted at remote viewing. If you've listened to our episode with Angela Ford, he has worked extensively with Angela. He's the guy who has really touched every single remote viewer that you have heard of who has worked for the government. He's done extensive research and exploration across Russia to figure out what they know about remote viewing that we can learn from.
Jonathan Cohen (3:11)
He's also going to explain what makes the best remote viewer, how they do it differently, what happened when they tried to implement a protocol and teach it in a very specific way, what went wrong and what not to do if you want to become a remote viewer.
Mayim Bialik (3:28)

You'll probably be surprised to hear that Dr. May describes himself as a staunch materialist, and he's going to explain why. It's a pleasure to welcome to the breakdown Dr. Edwin C. May. Break it down. Dr. Edwin May, welcome to the breakdown.
Edwin C. May (3:51)
Thank you. My pleasure.
Mayim Bialik (3:54)
I wonder if you can start us off by explaining how you got from your scientific origin to the world of parapsychology. What was that transition like?
Edwin C. May (4:07)
I was 35 years old as a post-doctoral person at the University of California in Davis, California, doing physics.
And I had never heard of anything like extracensory perception in my whole life or an out-of-body experience. None of that. I saw an advert as I was bored. He said, please come in here about out-of-body experiences by Bob Monroe. Never heard of that guy before. Okay. Nothing else to do. I go and I listen for about an hour. And he's talking about this magnificent thing that he did. He gets out of his body and he goes and he pinched his girlfriend on the butt and raised a welt while he's out of his body. I said, yeah, sure, sure. So I bought the book that he had. It's called Journey's Out of the Body and it's on my shelf here somewhere. Read it in two sittings. And the next thing I know, I tried it and nothing worked. I thought, this is ridiculous. I stuck it back in the shelf.
