Hey, it's time for MacGeekGab, and listener Todd brings us our quick tip of the week with, I am fortunate I was able to upgrade to an iPhone 18 Pro and purchase the Nomad traditional leather case. The Nomad case on my previous iPhone 16 Pro had a cutaway for the camera control button. The new case has a glass camera control button, and I kept accidentally pushing it while handling my iPhone. It was driving me a bit crazy, and I checked the settings for the camera control button at settings camera camera control, and there's an option to change to double click to open the camera app.

This has stopped me from getting caught by the single click. More quick tips like this, plus your questions answered today on Mac Geek Cab 1162 for Monday, October 5th, 2026

Adam Christianson (2:43)

He means I pushed a button I didn't mean to push.

Pilot Pete (2:46)

No, I pushed the right button, but other stuff came through. That was supposed to be the bell. That's all it was. It was supposed to be the bell. And here, let's see if it does it again.

Dave Hamilton (2:55)

Well, I don't know that we...

It worked. Okay. All right. okay.

Adam Christianson (2:59)

I could just

Dave Hamilton (3:02)

There it is yeah yeah that's safer that's safer yeah sometimes mechanical is the right way to go.

Pilot Pete (3:09)

Analog is where it's

Dave Hamilton (3:10)

At yeah i am uh i'm wearing a mechanical watch today for for example so nice yeah. Yeah i uh very nice i i i i am i'm obsessed with and obsessed might be the wrong word i don't know that's really not for me to describe but i i enjoy mechanical watches because they are a piece of, involved technology that has no batteries whatsoever and i i love shouldn't work i love that yeah, and i've always because i'm a mechanical watch fan i've been obsessed with movements that have a tourbillon in them a tourbillon, We're really here, aren't we?

I did it. So most mechanical movements just have, like a flywheel that goes around and around. And in the pocket watch days, especially your watch would hang at an angle that would be the same all day long. And gravity would cause that wheel to kind of fall and lift and fall and lift. And it would cause the watch to not keep great time. So somebody had the brilliant idea of what if we rotated the flywheel around once per minute so that it was never really like we floated the thing and then and then rotated it around. And so that's this movement called the tourbillon where it spins around now up until very recently.

Tourbillons were, you know, a watch with a tourbillon movement was like, you know, 100 grand or something. But thanks to technological advancements, you can get them now for far, far, far, far, far less than that. Three digits instead of six. So, you know.

Pilot Pete (4:50)

Well, that'll do it for the show today, folks. Join us next week on the Watch Geek Gab.
