Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware

October 14, 2026

This week we’re beyond excited to welcome the fabulous Christine Baranski to the table. Christine joined us fresh from rehearsals for her West End debut in 'Hay Fever' alongside Richard E Grant, so we had plenty to talk about.

Hello, and welcome to Table Manners, I'm Jessie Ware, and we're in mom's kitchen for, well, you are so excited.

Lennie Ware (0:10)

I'm so excited. I'm a super fan, burgeoning on Stalker. Oh, I think because I'm so excited by meeting Agnes, Diane, Tanya.

Jessie Ware (0:23)

Oh my God, mom. We've got Christine Baranski coming on the podcast.

Lennie Ware (0:27)

AKA Diane Lockout, Tanya from Mamma Mia.

Jessie Ware (0:31)

Yeah.

Lennie Ware (0:32)

And Agnes Van Ryan from Gilded Age. Wow.

Jessie Ware (0:36)

First name terms.

Lennie Ware (0:38)

I just know she's going to be-

Jessie Ware (0:39)

Hair's looking great, mom.

Lennie Ware (0:41)

Now, I'm trying my best. Wait to see her hair dress. She has the biggest, best hair you've ever seen, and if she doesn't, I'm going to be really miserable, undisappointed. Oh, God.

Jessie Ware (0:51)

You won't let her in?

Lennie Ware (0:52)

Yeah.

Jessie Ware (0:52)

Christine Baranski is coming on to talk about being on the West End with Richard E Grant in Hay Fever at the Wyndham's, and that just sounds perfect to me. Noel Coward.

Lennie Ware (1:05)

Noel Coward.

Jessie Ware (1:06)

Christine. Richard.

Lennie Ware (1:08)

Perfect. We're going.

Jessie Ware (1:11)

I think I'm going to miss it because I'll be on tour.

Lennie Ware (1:13)

No, we'll find a spot.

Jessie Ware (1:15)

I'd like to. She's in rehearsal, so she's coming straight from rehearsals now, and we're very excited to have it. Mum is on cooking duty. What have you made?

Lennie Ware (1:23)

Oh, God. I've made salmon with turmeric, chilli, ginger, and vermicelli noodles.

Jessie Ware (1:32)

Come and tell everyone where it's from.

Lennie Ware (1:34)

From our favourite cookbook of the year. It is the cookbook of the year for me.

It's The Greatest Dreybaite cookbook by our gorgeous John Gregory Smith, who's getting married soon. Oh, nice. We need to send him a wedding present.

Jessie Ware (1:48)

It is the gift that keeps on giving. I think it's probably the cookbook that we've used the most.

Lennie Ware (1:52)

I haven't done a salad. Do you think I need a salad to go with the salmon? It's got vegetables on it.

Jessie Ware (1:58)

Does it have like beans and stuff in it?

Christine Baranski (2:00)

No. What's it have in it?

Lennie Ware (2:01)

It has spring onions. That's not a salad, Mam.

Shall I do a little gem salad?

Jessie Ware (2:06)

I would have done it with like sugar snaps or?

Lennie Ware (2:09)

Well, he didn't say to serve it with anything because it's like with vermicelli, but I could just do some little gem lettuce or broccoli.

Jessie Ware (2:18)

Maybe broccoli. Do broccoli.

Lennie Ware (2:19)

Okay.

Jessie Ware (2:20)

I think broccoli with some sesame oil and lime and sesame seeds.

Lennie Ware (2:23)

Okay. Okay. Fuck off. I haven't factored that in.

Jessie Ware (2:28)

Okay. Right then.

Lennie Ware (2:29)

Hold on. I have to get my broccoli out.

Jessie Ware (2:31)

Christine Baranski coming up on Table Manners. Christine Baranski, thank you for being here.

Christine Baranski (2:44)

Thank you for having me.

Jessie Ware (2:45)

As I told you at the door, you may not be allowed to leave.

Christine Baranski (2:48)

Fine with me. I'm in good company. No.

Jessie Ware (2:51)

Mum, just tell Christine what you do when you go to the hairdresser.

Lennie Ware (2:54)

I take a photo of you.

Christine Baranski (2:56)

No.

Lennie Ware (2:57)

I'd like to have my hair. I want big hair like Christine Baranski.

Christine Baranski (3:02)

Well, I lucked out. I do have nice thick hair.

Lennie Ware (3:05)

You've got very thick hair.

Jessie Ware (3:07)

Can you do it yourself well?

Christine Baranski (3:09)

I can. My little secret, I have electric curlers and what I do is good old-fashioned electric curlers, and I put them in just for maybe 10 minutes, take them out and either put a Velcro in, like a big Velcro, and then take it out and I get that sort of blow-dried look. Because I don't know, how do women blow dry their own hair?

Jessie Ware (3:30)

I'm so bad at it.

Christine Baranski (3:31)

Well, do you really want to spend that amount of time going like that?

Jessie Ware (3:37)

It's like a bar class. It's exhausting.

Christine Baranski (3:41)

So, hair is an issue. It's a real thing for women and for men now too.

Lennie Ware (3:46)

How are you going to wear it on Hay Fever?

Christine Baranski (3:49)

I'm going to have a wig.

Lennie Ware (3:50)

Are you?

Christine Baranski (3:50)

And it's 1920s, so it's short. And I sort of love this look, but it'll be a bob. The women then had a bob with various hair ornaments and beautiful costumes.
