Dinesh (0:00)

What's wrong?

Ben (0:00)

We're not very happy with the way your one is. It's sort of coming out the back. Can you move it, Rom? No, it's all right. Just move it to one side a little bit.

Alfie (0:06)

Maybe just more behind you.

Shanthi (0:08)

Ah, that's it.

Michael Sheen (0:08)

More.

Shanthi (0:14)

Do you know what?

Ben (0:14)

I thought you might stand up and turn around for a second, but that was stupid of me.

Romesh Ranganathan (0:18)

Well, I'm trying to host the show.

Ben (0:19)

I know, I know. No, you're doing a great job.

Thanks. Thanks for your help.

Shanthi (0:27)

You can't do anything like that.

Romesh Ranganathan (0:28)

No, I can't. Not on this podcast. Um, looks like after the way I've just been spoken to, it's the first and last birthday of The Romesh Ranganathan Show. Let's see how this group of animals and my mother get on without me. I'm fucking done.

Week in and week out. I'm week in and week out. He can't phrase it like that. It sounds like it's a fucking grind. That doesn't sound celebratory. Celebratory? Doesn't sound celebratory. We're supposed to sound celebratory. That doesn't sound celebratory. I think it should be each and every week. Nice. Each and every week, I'm joined by my mother. But week in and week out. Week in and fucking week out. She fucking turns up. So do these pigs. And then it says, we've been doing this for a while now.

Okay, let's try.

Ben (1:22)

I think we try to embrace the way you tend to speak.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:25)

All right. Let's do it. Week in and week out. Day after day, I'm joined by my mom, the one and only, thank God, Shanthi, and this team of fucking creatures who are basically like leeches sucking the blood of revenue stream from my neck.

We've been doing this for such a long time now, mom. How long is it?

Shanthi (1:46)

One year.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:47)

Fuck is that all? The podcast is one this week. It feels like it's a hundred.

It's The Romesh Ranganathan First Birthday Special.

Shanthi (1:57)

Yay.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:58)

Thank you so much for all of your support. We really appreciate it. And listen, I know you prefer my mom, but I don't mind, actually. You're the best thing about this podcast. Thank you to mom for being continuing hilarious. And to the team, thank you. Happy birthday to you as well. It's, you've been really good on this and it's...

I couldn't do it without you.

Shanthi (2:29)

We're done.

Romesh Ranganathan (2:31)

I couldn't do it without you and you're essential to the ongoing success of this.

Shanthi (2:35)

Are you crying?

Romesh Ranganathan (2:36)

I think so.

Shanthi (2:37)

Emotional?

Romesh Ranganathan (2:37)

I feel sick. No, and also, you've done really, really well. To sort of overcome your natural deficiencies, to be able to help put this together has really been amazing. And you've all gone on a journey this year. You know, sometimes it feels like I'm talking to people.

When we first started this, they looked even more disgusting than they do now. They would turn out just belching and farting and sitting there. And a lot of the episodes, a lot of people sort of say, why aren't the mom episodes longer? We record for about 90 minutes. We lose an hour of it because of the noises and the sounds that come out of these beasts.

And you can't isolate, so you just have to cut it. Loads of good stuff is gone because one of them just fucking let rip with an anal, fisher-inducing fart.

Dinesh (3:37)

Happy birthday!

Romesh Ranganathan (3:40)

No, the team are great, aren't they, mom?

SPEAKER_7 (3:42)

Yeah, beautiful.

Shanthi (3:44)

I can't live without them. Honest to God.

Romesh Ranganathan (3:46)

You can live with them.

Dinesh (3:47)

No, I'm very happy.

Romesh Ranganathan (3:49)

I don't mind complimenting them, but we can live without them.

Shanthi (3:53)

I have known everyone. Now it's a long time.

Romesh Ranganathan (3:56)

Yeah.

Shanthi (3:57)

It's in my heart.

Romesh Ranganathan (3:58)

Is it?

Shanthi (3:59)

Oh, I bless them and I pray for them, for their happiness every single day. Because-

Romesh Ranganathan (4:06)

You pray for this team every single day?

Shanthi (4:08)

Every single day, because the podcast will do well. That's why.

Romesh Ranganathan (4:11)

Right. So it benefits us, I guess.

Ben (4:16)

God, it is getting emotional, isn't it?

Romesh Ranganathan (4:18)

How have you found the year, mum?

Shanthi (4:21)

Very interesting. I'm enjoying it. As soon as I got the date, I'm all excited.
