Andrae Linzy, ProBetter, host of The Wagering World, will join us on the show. We'll get his thoughts here on an exciting weekend in College Football where we have some system plays in College Football. We'll get to those here in a couple of minutes. Want to talk Major League Baseball where the Los Angeles Dodgers have been eliminated. That's right. The Milwaukee Brewers finish off a four-game sweep of the Dodgers coming from behind to beat LA 6-4, the final score at Chavez Ravine here earlier on Thursday. The Brewers win the National League and advance to the World Series where they will await the winner of the ALCS between the Guardians and the Rays. Cleveland with a two-game to one lead after they won 3-2 earlier today. Now, I'm not going to play conspiracy theorist here. I've jokingly talked about this on other shows and whatnot that maybe the Dodgers not winning this year, that's the thing that could have happened to the Dodgers.
Because Major League Baseball is going to have a serious labor dispute this offseason. And part of this new collective bargaining agreement, the biggest item on the agenda is a salary cap. And obviously, that would hurt the Dodgers significantly. Dodgers don't want a salary cap. A lot of the big market teams don't want a salary cap. But that's a major point of contention here in the upcoming labor disputes.
The Dodgers not winning this year helps them win next year. And it helps them win the year after. Because there's not going to be a salary cap.
Because the argument is going to be, why does the sport need a salary cap when the teams playing in the World Series are small market teams?
The Dodgers just got swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. Payroll doesn't matter because the Dodgers just got swept. Now, if the Dodgers went on to complete the three-peat, pretty sure there'd be a salary cap. Because everybody around Major League Baseball would say, well, how are we going to compete with the Dodgers? This is ridiculous. This is ridiculous. How are we going to compete with the Dodgers? They've now won three straight World Series, the highest payroll at all of Major League Baseball. How can we compete?
But let's look at the argument against it. Dodgers, highest payroll in Major League Baseball, just got swept in the NLCS. Mets, second-highest payroll, didn't even make the playoffs. Phillies, third-highest payroll, out early. Yankees, fourth-highest payroll, out early. San Diego, fifth-highest payroll, out. Toronto, out. Houston, out. Boston, out. Atlanta, out. San Francisco, out.
Milwaukee, the 17th payroll in Major League Baseball. The Tampa Bay Rays, the 19th payroll in Major League Baseball. The Guardians, the 26th payroll in Major League Baseball.
We don't need a salary cap, these teams can compete.
These teams can compete. But if the Dodgers won, just more fuel for the fire, right?
But maybe losing this year, best thing that could happen. For them, at least.
You take it on the chin this year, you come back next year, you're going to be short-shot favorites again, just like they were this year, and so on and so forth. Right now, we're looking at the odds to win the World Series. The Milwaukee Brewers, who have been the top team in Major League Baseball, maybe don't get enough credit for being as good as they have been here in baseball this year, they're minus 170 favorites right now to win the World Series. Guardians at plus 330, Rays at plus 475 Obviously, that's going to change as we progress throughout the ALCS, where right now Cleveland has two games to one lead, and they are minus 190 favorites, Rays plus 160 to come back. You want to bet an early World Series MVP, Jackson Churio of the Milwaukee Brewers, plus 600 William Contreras, excuse me, plus 650 Jacob Mizorowski, plus 750 I don't know if I can get behind a pitcher, because you'd have to make multiple appearances, right? You have to win at least two games. You'd have to appear in a third game probably, like the Madison Bumgarner thing. I don't know if I can get behind a pitcher winning the World Series MVP. But, you know, Jackson Shurio is interesting, because he has set the record now with the leadoff home runs. And he's going to, if he had to, you know, think about that. If he hits a leadoff home run in the World Series, after the leadoff home runs that he's hit here already in this postseason, all of a sudden, like, there's a, yeah, he's a rightful favorite here, a rightful favorite. Elsewhere, let's see, other guys, Garrett Mitchell with the home run earlier tonight against the Dodgers, he's at 35 to 1 Bowers 14 to 1 Bryce Truong 9 to 1
