Football's back. Oh, you can feel it, you can taste it. You can smell it. That toe is going to hit leather on Saturday. All will be right in the world. We will have survived is back in our lives. And we know how our lives are going to go. That's what's important for me. As a 41 year old man, so I've been a year, a year into being a man, according to Mike Gundy, I've learned as I've been diagnosed with ADHD that I need routine, I need consistency.
And that's what football season gives us. We have Monday night football. We eventually get maxion on Tuesday nights. We have Thursday night football. We have a solid college Friday slate now the last few years. Saturday, it's all day.
Sunday, it's all day. And on Monday, we started all over again. Oh, it's a beautiful thing. I'm so happy it is back in our lives.
And another consistent theme, apparently here on VSiN, is Tim Murray and Matt Humans go to Hawaii this week every year. And I think it's funny, because I'm not trying to make light of this, but I was like, oh, they're going to go. They're going to cover the game. They were on the field last year. It was dramatic, Hawaii against Stanford. And it'll be really cool. And then I started thinking, the game's in Stanford this year. And they're in Hawaii. It took me a while. Look, I'll never claim to be the sharpest tool in the box here. But I really was like, huh, so they're going to go there. Then they're going to go to Stanford. They're going to go to Palo Alto.
But either way, they have access to the Hawaii football team and it's freaking awesome. Because those of us who grew up watching Timmy Chang play quarterback, he's now back as the head coach, and he's got them heading in the right direction.
Twenty-two and twenty-nine in the last four years, but you're seeing the growth and more importantly, you're seeing a quarterback in Micah Alejado. Freshman of the year last year in the Mountain West Conference, 66 percent completion rate, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and that doesn't even factor in the fact that this kid was dealing with an injury for a large chunk of the season. Their offense was eighth in the nation passing a year ago, four widespread attack that Chang likes to run. They've got really good receivers including in the slot returning in Ashlock, who had 700-plus yards a year ago. The O-line returns a couple of starters, and only three defensive starters are back, but the offense is going to carry the load here for this team, because Micah Alahado is a difference maker. Here's what the head coach of Hawaii, Timmy Chang, had to say about his quarterback.

He's been awesome, you know, solid, you know. I really, what he played with, you know, going all the way back to that Stanford game last year in week zero, you know, the injury, playing it all the way through 12 games. He's a warrior.
Love what he's done in the off season, his leadership. He's an exciting player. And, you know, we look forward to lead, for him to lead this team and lead this offense, and go out there and do what he does.

The step you'd anticipate him taking from year one to year two, playing as a freshman the way that he did, gutsy moments, specifically last year, week zero, against this very same Stanford squad.
I think Micah Alejado is going to be one of the more fun guys to watch. And more importantly, Hawaii is always that late game, that get-right game for betters at the end of the day. So people are definitely going to be invested in the growth of one Micah Alejado. They've got Stanford, they're in Palo Alto, coming up for this match up here. This line has done a bit of dancing over the off season. So we open three, it's now four at most spots, couple still at three and a half currently. Totals dropped 50 and a half, down to 48 and a half. Timmy Chang enters this match up with his trends. 22 and 16 against the spread, but 23 and 16 to the under as a dog. He's also just nine and 11 against the spread, eight and 12 against the spread as a road dog. He's five and four to the under as a road dog of seven or less, but here's the one that jumped out to me. Timmy Chang at Hawaii, 14 and five to the under in the first month of the season. You combine that with the first one, 23 and 16 to the under as an under dog. I would lean under 48 and a half between Hawaii and Stanford. The line move would correlate with that 50 and a half down to 48 and half, so you're not getting the best of the number, but I would lean under in this matchup. Just Hawaii off the island, go into Stanford on the road, a lot of unknown factors for the cardinal with a new quarterback in Davis Warren who hasn't played in a couple of years because of injuries while he was at Michigan. I just think this offense, both teams could look pretty clunky early on. I also don't hate the idea of attacking at first half. First half under and then maybe the second half is where things open up and this eventually gets near that total. Right now, I'm looking at circa at 49 in the betting market. Now, no one in this game is going to be up for the Heisman Trophy, but there are guys that I like to look at deep down the board every year and try to make a case for some Heisman long shots because look, it's come home a couple of times now. We're talking Travis Hunter. We're talking Fernando Mendoza. You could have gotten big numbers north of 50 to one on both of those guys to win this award. Had you looked for those opportunities, and we're right about them in the preseason.
