I was talking about you on the way in, and I was talking to Andrew, who's a bit of a film file over there, and he was talking about Days of Thunder, and I was like, oh yeah, yeah, hot shots. He said Blackberry was great. I haven't seen Blackberry, but he said you're scene stealing in Blackberry. And we were just going over your resume, and I was like, oh yeah, oh yeah, forgot about that, Princess Bride, of course.
How did that come about, Princess Bride and or and or Hollywood in general?

So I started out working in England. I'm British, obviously, as you can tell. And I'd done a couple of movies in England.
And right before Princess Bride, I'd made a movie called Lady Jane, which was Helena Bonham Carter's first movie.

**Adam Carolla** (3:28)
Wow.

**Cary Elwes** (3:29)
And it was directed by Trevor Nunn, a terrific director, theater director. It was his first movie. And Rob saw that film.

**Adam Carolla** (3:42)
Rob Reiner.

Reiner.
And he flew to Berlin. I was making a British-German-Finnish co-production in Berlin. And he flew to Berlin. And read me in my hotel room.

Is your British accent is there, but it's not really pronounced. And I've found that people, whether it's British or they're from the Bronx, I've seen politicians do it. They can ratchet it up or they can turn it down. You know what I mean? So is that kind of a thing where you can bring it up per movie like that?

Well, it's a very good question, Adam. And when I got to the States, I always wanted to move here, by the way.
Even as a kid, growing up, I was like, I've got to get to America at some point.

**Adam Carolla** (4:36)
To act or just to be here?

**Cary Elwes** (4:38)
To live here. And some of my favorite actors are American, so I studied British acting. I thought, well, now I've got to study American acting. So I got the best of both worlds, Adam. But when I got here, I had a very strong English accent. People couldn't understand what I was saying. And I would say, I'd like to have a Coca-Cola, please. And they go, why?
