Let's go, baby.

Craig Carton (0:06)

452, Carton Show.

Bam, bam. We're right here. Let's take a look here.

18-foot monster waves, devastating North Carolina's outer banks as it continues to come up the East Coast. All right, so it's going to be an interesting Sunday. I'll tell you that. It might be fun. It also might be very dangerous. You might not want to be there.

Chris McMonigle (0:37)

Yeah, look, it's one of those days you hunker down, you watch plenty of football.

Craig Carton (0:41)

Is it a fire day? Probably not yet. It's not cold enough yet. A little fireplace kind of day.

Chris McMonigle (0:46)

Oh, in the house?

Craig Carton (0:48)

You ready for a little fireplace action in or no?

Chris McMonigle (0:50)

Is it going to be cold enough? I don't know. I usually don't start in September. I wait as long as I can.

Craig Carton (0:54)

Kind of like, I think like this, I was up at five o'clock this morning. I would say it was like 51, kind of into the low 60s today. Very nice. I didn't think the thing happened, by the way, this morning. We'll get to your calls. So I park kind of right near Times Square, right? Get out of my car.

I'm walking over to Outkick, to Fox today, which is over on 47th and 6th, okay? So on 48th Street, where I walk across town, there's...

Chris McMonigle (1:22)

Do you do any jaywalking on the...

Craig Carton (1:24)

I'm a habitual jaywalker, right? So if that part of the city is a legendary firehouse, unfortunately, it's the firehouse, every single member of that fire department that responded to 9-11 perished that day. So only the guys that were off duty that came in later in the day survived. The guys that were on duty that morning, said, I think there were 15 of them, they all perished September 11th, okay? It's also one of the firehouses, which the guys are outside a lot, because it's Times Square, and a lot of photographs of that particular firehouse. I'll tell you the exact, the ladder company and all that. But in any event, I'm walking, minding my business. I got hat on, hood on, whatever. Guy walking towards me recognizes me. But dude, it's 5.3 in the morning. So I'm not really sure, like, yo, who the guy is, what's going on. And he kind of stares at me. And obviously, you know when someone recognizes you. Yeah. And I'm like, how you doing? And he goes, Craig Carton? I go, yes. He goes, big fan, listen to you and Big Mac every day.

Me and the guys at the ladder company love the fan, big sports fans.

Now, I'm now three blocks east from the firehouse, which is on 48th and 9th, okay?

Would you come back with me to the firehouse, say hi to the guys? They'll love it.

Chris McMonigle (2:48)

Tough spot.

Craig Carton (2:49)

I'm half awake, but the answer is an obvious, of course I will, but I'm barely waking up, right? I go, of course I will, happy to. Now, he had a new show connection, new family I grew up with, blah, blah, blah, blah. We walk back to the firehouse, he does the code on the door, we go into the firehouse. Now it's 6.3 in the morning, 4.4 at 7 in the morning, everybody's sleeping.

You can't wake them up because those guys are not guaranteed sleep. You're based on emergencies and fires and what not. So now I'm in the firehouse with, I think he's the captain, okay?

SPEAKER_3 (3:29)

Shhh.

Chris McMonigle (3:30)

He's giving you the shush?

Craig Carton (3:32)

They're all sleeping. And then, so.

SPEAKER_3 (3:36)

What do you say?

Chris McMonigle (3:37)

Thanks but no thanks? I didn't know they were all be sleeping?

Craig Carton (3:39)

No, no. It's like quarter to seven. I'm sure they're starting to get up, right? So he walks me into the back bay behind where there's two fire trucks in there. And it's really, to me, I was fascinated by it because each guy's got like a little section of that back bay. And the way firefighters get dressed, which I never contemplated, is you basically step in to the entire outfit when you're going to fight a fire. So, it's all connected to the boots.

So that way, God forbid there's a fire and the alarm goes off. How long do you think it takes a firefighter to go from a t-shirt and shorts to full gear ready to fight a fire?

It's crazy.

Chris McMonigle (4:23)

From the minute he like first steps in to the shoes or from the minute he wakes up?
