Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle react to the Dodgers inviting Rob Reiner's children to throw out the ceremonial first pitch following their family's tragic story, with Craig questioning whether the moment was appropriate while Chris sees it as a chance to move forward.
Speakers: Craig Carton, Chris McMonigle

Joe Big Mac, obviously everyone's under the gun right now. Red Sox got to catch her. Ray's got to catch her. Yankees need to catch her, but no catcher just yet. We'll bring it to you as it happens in real time right here on The Fan. Real quick, did you happen to see this very weird, awkward first pitch situation, Big Mac, that happened over the weekend, or did you not see it?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:22)
I did not.

**Craig Carton** (0:22)
You did not see it?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:24)
A first pitch?

**Craig Carton** (0:25)
Yeah, first pitch. It was actually at the Dodgers or Red Sox game over the weekend, okay?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:29)
No.

**Craig Carton** (0:29)
So the Dodgers, obviously, best team in baseball, right? First place, all that jazz. They acquire Scoobel. They're all the talk of the town.
They decide to invite Jake and Romy Reiner. Okay. Out to throw out the first pitch. Now, by name, you may not know who they are. They're not public figures, I don't believe.

**SPEAKER_3** (0:48)
Rob Reiner.

**Craig Carton** (0:48)
But you certainly know who their parents were, their dad.

**SPEAKER_3** (0:51)
Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (0:51)
So they are two of the children of Rob and Michelle Reiner. Now, let that sink in for a second. What's their claim to fame?
Their claim to fame is that their wacko brother brutally murdered their parents in their bed while they were sleeping. Yes. And is in prison for it now.
Now, I don't know about you, but is that an awkward first pitch? Ladies and gentlemen, now throwing out the first pitch, Jake and Romy Reiner, whose parents were brutally assassinated, executed, by their wacko brother last year. Let's give a hand to the Reiner's. What are we doing?

**Chris McMonigle** (1:35)
Giving two people who have been through it a nice moment?

**Craig Carton** (1:39)
Again, they've been through it. They lost their parents and their brothers in jail for it. Right? Yeah. So God knows what that's like. And obviously, hopefully none of us ever experience anything like that in our lifetimes.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:49)
Right?

**Craig Carton** (1:50)
But do you think that makes them feel better?
Man, I've been so depressed about my parents being executed by my brother, you know, in cold blood with like a hammer. But thank God the Dodgers had to start the first pitch. Now everything's better.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:04)
Well, I don't know about that, but if they didn't want to do it, nobody forced them to do it.

**Craig Carton** (2:09)
First off, it's a weird invitation.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:11)
I guess. Number one.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:12)
Maybe he...

**Craig Carton** (2:12)
Number two, it's a weird acceptance of the invitation.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:15)
Maybe they wanted to do it. Maybe he was pushing for it. Maybe he's a big Dodger fan.

**Craig Carton** (2:18)
Why would I want to be reminded that my brother killed my parents?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:21)
Why is that reminding them that? Maybe it's to get them off their minds. Why not?

**Craig Carton** (2:26)
Because 40,000 people are there going, You gotta be kidding me.
Like, what are we doing? It's an immediate reminder as to what happened. Romy Reiner, all due respect, I don't think she's an actress or a public figure or anything. She's just a gal living her life. Now she's out there, 45,000 people are going, Who's Romy Reiner? You're not going to believe this. She's the girl whose parents got killed in their bed by her brother.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:52)
I mean, Rob Reiner wasn't named before that. That's not what he's known for. He's known for being a director.

**Craig Carton** (2:56)
Rob Reiner's known. Well, Rob Reiner's known in two ways.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:59)
For being an actor.

**Craig Carton** (3:00)
Many of us are big fans of his work.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:02)
Meathead.

**Craig Carton** (3:02)
All right, whether as an actor or as a director. And then some of us may only know him based on how old you are, obviously, as the guy that got bludgeoned to death in bed next to his wife by his wacko son.
It's a weird invitation. Hey, you lost your entire family. You want to throw out the first pitch in a Dodger game?

**Chris McMonigle** (3:24)
But doesn't...

**Craig Carton** (3:25)
Because it was like we were honoring the memory of their folks.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:29)
No, I guess not.

**Craig Carton** (3:30)
Right? But it wasn't like a moment of silence for the loss of the Reiner's a year ago.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:34)
No.

**Craig Carton** (3:35)
Right?

**Chris McMonigle** (3:36)
Yeah, I mean, that would be even weirder.
