Craig Carton (0:00)

Yeah, yeah, 20 after 3, Carton Show, Big Mac, Sophie Cunningham, what's bothering you?

Okay, that's something. I was with Darren Rovell earlier today speaking about herpes. Not Darren doesn't have herpes. That was a bad segue there.

Chris McMonigle (0:17)

I was gonna say, is he auctioning off herpes?

Craig Carton (0:19)

Well, you know he's a big collectible guy, right? So he brought to show me today, among other things, Jerry Garcia, before he passed away, got a sexually transmitted disease, and he has the actual pill bottle of him getting penicillin for it.

Chris McMonigle (0:41)

The penicillin that cured Jerry Garcia of the clap.

Craig Carton (0:44)

I got it right there.

Yeah, Jerry Garcia, February 13th, 1989 Take one tablet four times daily. There you go.

Chris McMonigle (0:59)

Penicillin, 500 milligrams. It's Jerry Garcia. How do you know what it's for? Penicillin for a lot of different things.

Craig Carton (1:07)

And STD, most likely. Okay. When's the last time as an adult you took penicillin without having like chlamydia or something, or gonorrhea?

Chris McMonigle (1:15)

I don't know, penicillin for any sort of infection.

Craig Carton (1:18)

Pete and Gallagher are telling me that. It's usually for, what did you guys say you had again, Pete?

Jan the Meat Man (1:22)

Gonorrhea. Gonorrhea. Yeah, it's the clap, yeah.

Craig Carton (1:25)

Is that the clap, gonorrhea?

Chris McMonigle (1:25)

I think the clap is the gonorrhea.

Jan the Meat Man (1:26)

That's what I always thought.

Chris McMonigle (1:27)

The clap is a term for the gonorrhea.

Jan the Meat Man (1:29)

Yeah, the other thing you showed me.

Chris McMonigle (1:30)

The only thing, it's Jerry Garcia, but if it were for one of the notorious love makers of our time, that would be. Who?

Like, Will Chamberlain claims to have had 20,000 women or something.

Craig Carton (1:45)

I'm sure Jerry Garcia had his share of gals.

Chris McMonigle (1:47)

I'm sure he did.

Craig Carton (1:48)

And I was back in the big babushka days, too.

Chris McMonigle (1:50)

Is he known for, I'm trying to think of Jerry Garcia. Was groupies like a term coined?

Jan the Meat Man (1:55)

It was free love back then.

Chris McMonigle (1:56)

I mean, they had people traveling with them all the time.

Craig Carton (1:59)

San Francisco?

Chris McMonigle (2:00)

Yeah, oh no, no.

Jan the Meat Man (2:01)

The 60s and 70s? Oh no, I'm sure he did.

Craig Carton (2:03)

I'm just trying to think if he's known for it. I think if it walked, he'd probably try to bang it.

Chris McMonigle (2:06)

Bill Walton was around, who knows?

Craig Carton (2:08)

Bill Walton might have given him chlamydia.

Chris McMonigle (2:10)

It's very possible.

Craig Carton (2:11)

May they both rest in peace. I also have a clear check from Jerry Garcia to Lenscrafters.

Yeah, he bought a pair of $760 glasses from Lenscrafters, but what's interesting to me about it is I didn't realize that Jerry Garcia's first name is not Jerry.

Chris McMonigle (2:32)

It's not.

Craig Carton (2:33)

No.

Chris McMonigle (2:33)

What is it?

Craig Carton (2:34)

Jerome.

Chris McMonigle (2:35)

Jerome.

Craig Carton (2:36)

And he signs it, Jerome Garcia.

Chris McMonigle (2:38)

How about that?

Craig Carton (2:39)

And he even, this shows you the error, because you and I wouldn't do the same. When was the last time you wrote a check today, right?

Chris McMonigle (2:45)

Yeah.

Craig Carton (2:45)

Because of all digital banking? In the memo, so the checks went out to Lenscrafters.

Chris McMonigle (2:50)

Right.

Craig Carton (2:50)

Okay, we know what that is. It's an eyeglass place.

Chris McMonigle (2:52)

Yes.

Craig Carton (2:53)

In the memo, he wrote glasses.

Chris McMonigle (2:58)

Well, just so they know.

Craig Carton (3:00)

You weren't buying toilet seats at Lenscrafters, Jerome.

I found it interesting anyway. Yeah.

Chris McMonigle (3:06)

That is funny. Penicillin for Jerry Garcia.

Craig Carton (3:09)

Penicillin for Jerry Garcia.

Chris McMonigle (3:10)

The original bottle.

Craig Carton (3:11)

There you go. That's right.

Chris McMonigle (3:13)

How much does he think that's going to fetch on market?

Craig Carton (3:15)

I asked him. I don't remember what he said. He's not looking to sell it. He was just showing me some of his collection. One of the cool things he had was, there was a shoe store in Boston that in 1986 put a sign up in their window. Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox, World Series Champions.

Jan the Meat Man (3:34)

Oops.

Chris McMonigle (3:35)

Just some random shoe store did that? That sign in the...

Craig Carton (3:38)

Yeah, random shoe store. Can you imagine?
