Two o'clock straight up, it's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Friday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join, as always, 888-808-1019, got a great show for you today. And of course, a lot of our attention is going to be on this crazy weather that's coming in. But it's interesting to me that for the last, God knows how many hours in this radio station, there's been a baseless, ugly attack against the Bronx Bombers as an organization. Wah!
Wah!
Oh, well, CC Sabathia, wah! It's not right, wah! So allow me to say this, cause there needs to be a voice to raise. Good afternoon, Big Mac, how are you?
Chris McMonigle (0:51)
I'm doing well.
Craig Carton (0:51)
Great. Okay, four o'clock game today, 315th ceremony to honor the great CC Sabathia, the ace of the pitching staff, back in 2009, when you won your last championship, Hall of Famer, all the good stuff that comes with it, okay?
There are moments in time when you have to put your selfish desires aside. Evan Roberts. And this is one of those moments. There's a natural disaster that is headed our way. It's already started to hit the shore, as many of you know, obviously, depending on where you might live and where your friends and family lives. People are going to die this weekend.
And for the last four hours, I got to hear the Yankees are wronging their fans. I can't believe the Yankees moved the day to the CC Sabathia game to today. They didn't do it because they don't like their fans. They didn't do it because they don't respect their fans. There is a natural disaster coming our way. We're going to lose power. We're going to have tree damage. We're going to have roof damage. We're going to die.
Not all of us, of course, but a few of us are going to die in the storm. And the best you guys can do is, I can't believe the Yankees are screwing their fans when it comes to CC Sabathia. CC Sabathia told the Yankees, I got a lot of people coming from out of town. I got hotel rooms booked, I got flights booked, I got people staying in my crib. So let's just make it Friday at 3.15, and it's all good. I can't believe the Yankees! What do you want the Yankees to do?
There's a natural disaster coming our way!
There's going to be 73 feet of water on the streets of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. Oh, I can't believe the Yankees! The Yankees are trying to accommodate the fans and CC Sabathia. And trust me on this one, you'll get over it. It's not going to negatively impact your life if you had a ticket for this weekend when CC was going to be honored. And unfortunately, you can't go to it. They're refunding you your money, so you're not on any money. Well, I hope so. Okay? And you're going to get a ticket, I guess, to a game next year, whatever the case may be.
Chris McMonigle (3:18)
Yeah, it's still a little murky on whether or not you're getting your money back. Some people did call the show today and said that they have that, but that's not in the press release.
Craig Carton (3:25)
Because today's game, the 4 o'clock game, you need tonight's ticket to get in.
SPEAKER_3 (3:28)
That's the point.
Craig Carton (3:28)
And by the way, nobody's going. Why?
SPEAKER_3 (3:32)
Yeah.
Craig Carton (3:32)
Natural disaster! Like come on, guys.
Chris McMonigle (3:37)
Well, look, sometimes even though it's a natural disaster, there's frustration. And I could understand any Yankee fan who feels like months in advance, they purchase the ticket specifically for Saturday. Okay. And not only is that game being canceled, but they're...
Craig Carton (3:51)
Oh, stop. One at a time.
Chris McMonigle (3:53)
Okay.
Craig Carton (3:53)
The Saturday game is being canceled. Everyone understands that. Why is it being canceled, Big Mac? I believe it's... Say it with me.
Chris McMonigle (3:59)
I believe it's a natural disaster.
Craig Carton (4:00)
Natural disaster!
Chris McMonigle (4:02)
Yes.
Craig Carton (4:03)
So it's like the Yankees woke up today and said, huh, how can we screw our fans? I know what we'll do. We'll cancel Saturday's game.
People are going to die.
Chris McMonigle (4:14)
You're making me laugh at that. Stop.
Craig Carton (4:16)
Why are you laughing at people dying?
Chris McMonigle (4:18)
I'm trying not to. But like, I hear what you're saying. Like, obviously, no one is complaining about the game being canceled. Here's the point. Like, it's just unfortunate. And we just saw it with Howie Rose and weather impacting that game. They pushed it off until next season. And I could understand any fan who's frustrated today that they bought tickets months, weeks in advance, specifically for Saturday, bought plane tickets, bought hotel accommodations, coming here to see CC Sabathia's number being retired. And now that ticket doesn't even get them into the game today that they're doing the retirement ceremony.
