That's all we want to do is win, win, win, win. Carton Show Big Mac, good to have you here. Really gorgeous this week. Tomorrow's gonna be 84, they're saying, so a little Indian summer, which is great. Learned a valuable lesson yesterday that despite our popular belief that Native Americans are called Indians because Christopher Columbus thought he landed in India, not the case at all. Learn that this morning, you're driving into work watching our TikTok videos. How about that? Do you know why they're called Indians?

I'm being dead serious.

Chris McMonigle (0:32)

I know you are, I'm just saying. It's not what I always thought. It leads to the question. No, please enlighten us.

Craig Carton (0:37)

Well, I'm gonna let you sit out there for a little bit, see if you can come up with an answer by three o'clock. And if you can't come up with the answer by three o'clock, I'll tell you. It's a part of a great George Carlin stand-up routine. But he explains why people that are mad at Columbus for calling them Indians, he had nothing to do with it.

Well, he didn't think he was in India. Let me rephrase that, okay? No, I'll walk you through it, though.

Chris McMonigle (0:57)

That was his purpose.

Craig Carton (0:58)

I learned something.

Chris McMonigle (0:59)

Find a new route to India, wasn't it?

Craig Carton (1:01)

Yes, for the spice trade and all that stuff. Yeah, he may have thought he was in India. That's not why they're called Indians.

So a little, you know, after yesterday in Columbus Day and all, thought I would impart some wisdom on the audience because to be fair, you guys, like myself, not all that brave. Here's Eli in Rockland County on the fan. Eli, what's going on?

SPEAKER_4 (1:21)

How are we doing, guys?

Craig Carton (1:22)

Great.

Chris McMonigle (1:22)

What's up?

SPEAKER_4 (1:24)

So I just wanted to bring up a point that a few years ago, just on Craig's point, when the Jets got Aaron Rodgers, all the fans talk about was Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. So it's been to the Jets also. It's not like you guys don't exist on the station.

Chris McMonigle (1:41)

I would say to your point, I was thinking about, I talked about this in my last Overnight Show, just going through with my producer. I'm like, what do you think was the biggest topic that we talked about the most on the show in the two years I did The Overnight? And I think Aaron Rodgers was it.

SPEAKER_3 (1:56)

Oh no, when Aaron Rodgers was here, you are correct.

Chris McMonigle (1:59)

Aaron Rodgers was the biggest topic I had in the two years doing Overnights. I don't think there's any doubt.

SPEAKER_3 (2:04)

Two and a half years, yeah.

Craig Carton (2:04)

And you probably could have done it every night for four hours a night if you wanted.

Chris McMonigle (2:08)

So the Jets were very much a topic then.

Craig Carton (2:11)

But it was sure lived. It was sure lived because year one, four plays, oh my god.

Chris McMonigle (2:15)

Right.

Craig Carton (2:16)

Year two, the nonsense really started to grow and grow and grow. And obviously, solid gets fired. We all know the history of it.

Look, the Giants deserve the front headlines. No doubt about it. They are three, one and one. And because the NFC is not what any of us expected it to be, five weeks into the season, the dynamic has changed so much so that I'm surprised, I don't hear more Giants fans talking about the what ifs with Jackson Dart injury. Yeah. Because could you imagine, again, I still think worst case should be three, one and one. Best case, I think it'd be four and one against Washington with Jackson Dart. But James played his ass off in the second half. So let's assume the record is exactly the same. Because that's probably fair. Probably still lose to the Rams and win all the other games.

Chris McMonigle (3:03)

Let's just assume his injury is what we initially thought it was, four to six weeks.

Craig Carton (3:07)

He's coming back next week, first place in East.

Chris McMonigle (3:10)

One more week against a lousy NFL team right now. I know the Saints are kind of trending upwards at the end of last year. They're one and four with the worst defense in the NFL. That's what they are. So you've got a lousy football team coming into your building this weekend.

If they would have won that game, and then it's the Eagles next, the Texans next rather, and you have Jackson Dart returning, I think it's either them or the Eagles and then the Bi-Week. But if you would have won this game, been four, one, and one, and in comes Jackson Dart, we would be beyond ourselves with optimism. And considering the rest of the way the NFC has looked, it would have been, man, they've got a legitimate chance to win this game.
