Cannabis Product Liability Lawsuits: What Operators Can Learn

One thing that has arisen, I guess, in the last couple of years is the product liability lawsuits that a lot of us knew would come. It's the nature of things. I mean, is that something that keeps you up at night?

Are they taking on any form that is concerning to you?

Well, if anything, you know, just like everybody, we read the headlines, we read about, you know, issues with products, and sometimes some of the issues have created some reputational damage for some operators. But I think a lot of these complaints and lawsuits that you're seeing have really reinforced the importance of quality assurance, product stewardship, really throughout the industry, as well as highlighted the importance of supply chain risk management. You know, cannabis products today are manufactured, distributed at a scale. Imagine how many products go through the doors at Curaleaf. But as the industry grows, it has more consumers purchase cannabis. You know, product liability really becomes a natural area of focus for plaintiffs, regulators, and even insurers. You know, as a result, a lot of the operators like Curaleaf are investing in testing, quality assurance systems, manufacturing controls, heavy documentation.

You know, even supply chain contract management and managing and overseeing supplier insurance, you know, is one of those things that can help mitigate supply chain risk. So there's definitely an opportunity to turn these headlines into learning lessons, for sure.
